It will be a long drawn out process. I just want to start with the rolling chassis so I can do a complete nut and bolt on it with out having to deal with removing rusty panels. Later down the road I can cherry pick good oem parts. If it costs me a premium so be it. It won't be until next spring that I can start restoring the frame due to not having a heated work space to do it. So then I will start a build thread. Until then I just need more Ideas and opinions.

i have a question about what color you're planning on and also what year front end. to me the 67 and 68 would be the sharpest, but to mean when i see the letters COPO, all i can think of are black or orange 69 camaros.

I was thinking the same thing. I was going to make mine a C/28. Comming into a original 69 z28 302 block. Maybe throw a Muncie rock crusher, drop it 2/4, and chambered mufflers like the 69 z28 (that includes having the cross over so the left tail pipe is actually from the right side cylinder bank and vice versa).

I will be useing the 70 grille/front end. Also I can't decide if I want to paint it Burnished Brown with a white top, Midnight Bronze Metallic with a white top, or Shadow gray. All original GM colors but only the Shadow Gray is a 1970 color.

Member CST69 just posted yesterday that he is building a 68 chevy and wants to call it CST/SS or CSST. He's going to put a 500 caddy engine in his. Sounds pretty cool. Maybe I should go ahead and start a SST thread.

If it were to be a 67 or 68 COPO truck, I would do a L79 327, a L78 396, or a L72 427. A 69 would only have the choice of the L78 or the L72, the 327 was dropped early in 1969 and there were no L79's in 69. The 1970-72 would be an LT-1 or a LS-6 454 (well not the 72 cause no LS-6 in 72).

But you could do a crossram 302.

I like the ideas of cars and trucks that never were..
Here's my contribution to the styling of your "SST"
A rear end concept I came up with a while back, and never used....
but it seems to fit the idea of your truck.

Turn indicators are where the back up lights would be, and back up lights and tail panel are borrowed from the El Camino line..

The body portion of the restoration is probably around a year or more away. right now I'm going to fully restore the frame nut and bolt. Even then I don't know if I will build the engine and fit everything to the frame first and then do the body.

This sounds like an awesome build! I just happen to have a really decent cab, a rh fender, and a decent support if you're interested.

Keeping true to the 70 model year, the turn lights are Monte Carlo.

Does anyone think it would be better to two tone or just put on a single color. I'm also leaning towards Shadow Gray with a red interior, or blue interior.

Didn't even think of useing an IRS set up. Sounds cool but a little too involved for my budget. I guess I wouldn't even know where to begin to look for one. I'd like to have a 375 horse 396 laying around, as well as every other hi-po GM engine. Where do you live in relation to Interstate 35? This is the year we pack up and go to Texas for family Christmas and I always just take 35 all the way down. We do it every other year.

You should be able to pick up one from a C3 corvette pretty reasonable. Look for 75-82 parts. They seem to be the cheapest. You could also look for stuff from C4's. 84-91ish should be cheaper yet I'm guessing. Those complete cars don't bring much.
