I knew a guy who had the same problem. He took a 1/4" piece of steel plate, drilled three holes in it, two for the good bosses in the block and one at the location of the broken boss. Then he ground a notch in the block about the size of a nut. Then he literally ground 1/4" off the starter! Bolted the starter on with the plate and grade 8 bolts, put the nut on the back side where he made the notch.......and it worked until he got rid of the vehicle a few months later. It was a no-weld job. And you can grind that notch out for the nut with a rotary tool, so no need to pull the engine. I'm sure replacing the starter again later would be a pain, you'd have to grind the new starter down 1/4".
That sounds a little "hills".....but what the he!!, I would try it once crazyL

Re: new to the site... am i screwed or not

That's a great idea.

The truth be known I got the all thead to work ......and even got the stock starter bolted up . I shimed the bad bolt hole with a large flat washer and made a 1/4" angle bracket bolted from back of the starter to the block (bolted it to the dip stick bolt on the side of the block)and tighten it all up and it worked great. Ive started it about 12 -15 times and it hasn't moved.

thanks for all your help with this
you guys are a blessing this was one of those out of the box issues and you were all very helpful.

Glad it's working for you, and hope it continues to work. Good luck.
