Re: C10 daily drivers

Here's the '71 I drive to work every day. It's the only running vehicle I currently have. I traded a '98 Monte Carlo even up for it and have NEVER regretted it.

Re: C10 daily drivers

My truck is a daily driver. Well, it's the only vehicle I own now. It has been my daily driver for the last 14 years. I enjoy working on it 95% of the time. It has let me down a few times, mostly due to my not fixing something correctly or in a timely manner. It is curious though, once you have replaced nearly all of the major componets, it performs just like any other vehicle on the road except your ride is distingable from everyone elses.

I will be real upset if anything bad were to happen to it. The truck is actually apart of who I am!

As much as I enjoy seeing the pictures of the show-caliber trucks, I enjoy seeing the DD's just as much. What great trucks...

Re: C10 daily drivers

I used to daily drive my 69 C10 stepside EVERYDAY. That was until I got my C20 on the road so now it's every other day. I've divided up the task.

I use both of these taking turns as my mood dictates. The C20 is a 4 speed and small block and the stepper is now a TH350/454. Been daily driving my stepside since I bought it in 1997. Put more miles on it that I can remember. I know it's got it's 4th engine that I put in.

You couldn't get me to buy or own a newer truck. I'll leave all the expensive break downs and car payments for others. I'm happy with my $1,000 dollar stepside and $50 dollar C20. (yep, $50 dollars I paid for that one!) Of course, I put alot of work and a few bucks into them but they increase in value almost daily. The same can't be said for newer ones that litter the junkyards.

Old Chevy's rule!!!

Re: C10 daily drivers

I don't go any where every day so I guess this was not really my daily driver. Now it is being used as a donor to build a '67 swb stepper that will be my main driver.

Until I get the '67 finished this is my main driver.

Re: C10 daily drivers

My 70 is my only mode of transportation. Work, fishin, runnin kids here and there......sun, rain or snow and I love it. I was in the same position with a 95 GMC. Got tired of having to pay people to fix it. $500 to replace a sensor of some sort was the final straw.

Re: C10 daily drivers

I ride a motorcycle most everyday, but I am between bikes right now, so I am driving my 68 C-10 everyday, 45 miles round-trip, commuting to work. I am getting an estimated 15-mpg from a 250 six-cyl, 4-spd SM465 and a 3.08 rear gear. Not bad for an old truck.
And you won;t find me on the side of the road with the hood up staring into the engine compartment wondering WTF is wrong with it! No computer! No sensors! No electronic ignition! No problem!

Re: C10 daily drivers

Unless there is a meeting, or other issue, my wife and I commute to town (about 30+ miles each way) and drive together. I like to ride my scooter ('03 HD Fatboy) and drive my old truck when I get the chance. The thing is, I have an '09 Silverado and I'm really thinking about selling it and turning it into cash. Haven't decided what to do with the money (the truck is paid for), but I'll probably work on this one and look for another to have as a DD. My 2WD is okay, until we get some snow, then I need another vehicle for the 4WD option.

Re: C10 daily drivers

Not a truck but I figured I'd throw it up here. I didn't build it to stare at it or tow it around. I built it to drive the hell out of it with a huge stupid grin on my face the entire time!!!

Cool Re: C10 daily drivers

I don't have to drive it everyday but I do. I have 5 vehicles right now to choose from. This being the one I drive the most.

Here it is outside @ my M&D's in Conover NC abut a 300 mile round trip.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Funny thing is the variety of conditions. You go from mine that looks like dog doo and would probably be parted out by most, to trucks like these last few posted. It's all about what's underneath is my thought.

It all comes down to what you can tolerate on your drive. Not looking show room new I can take, poor driveability and unreliabilty I can not.

Wink Re: C10 daily drivers

I have mine hooked to the trailer as we speak going to drop off a golf cart to the high school. I put new batteries and motor in it for them. The cart doesn't look all that great but the running gear is all new basicly!

I'm not scared to use the truck but I do choose when and what I use it for.
