Re: lifted 4x4

My truck has gone through a few stages of being lifted, so I'll put them in chronological order. First, with a 6" Rough Country lift, minor fender trimming, and 38x15.50R16 Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials. Truck is a 1983 K20.

The local police "coerced" me into getting fender flares, mud flaps, etc. So here they are.

Finally got the correct grille for it.

Added a 3" body lift and this is how it sits now.

No idea, to be honest. It was orange when I got it. I know for a fact it's not Hugger Orange. Looks almost like Omaha Orange or Atomic Orange.

Good looking rig! I love the 81-82 grille. That thing looks clean.

Re: lifted 4x4

Thanks. That was a freebie grille! Was bought for a work truck for where I work 30yrs ago and it was never installed. It was going to be tossed out so I grabbed it and replaced the billet grille it had on.

Re: lifted 4x4

Wise decision. That was the best looking grille setup for an 81-87, IMO. The 83-84 like I have on mine is my second favorite.

Re: lifted 4x4

I wasnt sure of the year when I grabbed it but it made a 100% improvement over the aftermarket one. Next I want to install a steel bumper and lose the roll pan. So the cops gave you a hard time with the tires sticking out a bit?

Re: lifted 4x4

Oh yes they did. They gave me problems with everything they could. They still pull me over because they know my front bumper is 1/4" over the legal limit for PA. I can literally let 2 PSI of air out of the front tires and it's fine, but they still give me trouble over it.

Re: lifted 4x4

For R.I. its head light height and not bumper height. They acutually have a law on the books stating it can't be lifted 4" over factory. For the most part, they do not bother the lifted trucks here unless its something ridiculous, or if the tires are really sticking out. Mine are out about 2 inches front and rear and nothing has been said....so far.

Re: lifted 4x4

Yes, it's a 2" steel one. I love it. They have bumper height, headlight and tail light height, tires can't stick out, and body/frame gap requirements in PA. Not to mention I'm sure mine would fail a decibel test.

Re: lifted 4x4

They take all the fun out of it, dont they!!! My cars are really loud, but my truck is relatively quiet. Kinda to quiet for my likings, but it will stay this way for now. Have full lenth headers with 1 5/8" primaries + 3" collectors, 2 1/2" pipes with mini high flow cats ( inspection purposes ) and Thrush welded mufflers. Very mild sounding. Its a factory rebuild motor, so I am assuming low compression ratio=low noise level. Wasnt loud before the cats either.

Re: lifted 4x4

I'm running similar headers, no cats, and the same mufflers. I also have 4.5" tips that exit before the rear tires. All the extra pipe and the lack of tips probably makes yours that much quieter than mine. Mine is pretty darn loud if I put my foot into it, but it sounds good no matter how loud it is. That's what I really care about. I'm lucky mine is exempt from emissions, or that truck would be a permanent lawn ornament. I'm sure the mildly built 350 doesn't help it being quiet either. Gotta let it breathe!
