Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
You said it. Decent. There is a guy in Palymra that always has 12v's in various condition. I know where there is a 93 Dodge D250 that was rolled that has a rebuilt Dana 60, a 12v with a 518 auto, and pretty low mileage for $2500.

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
Just from what I've seen, it seems like when you stick a diesel engine (especially a Cummins) on a pallet the price goes through the roof for some reason. Put that same motor in a rusted out truck thats not road worthy but the motor still runs great, and it's not so bad.
Looks for a truck that is wrecked or rusted. Buy the whole thing, pull what you need, sell the rest of the parts, then scrap it. In terms of computer controlled engines, that is the ONLY way I would even think about swapping in a newer computer controlled diesel. It's just easier to have the whole vehicle and pull all you need, rather than trying to piece it together and paying an arm and a leg for it all separately.

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
hence My questioning.... I'm thinking of just Buying a insurance Totaled New as I can Afford Dodge with the 6.7 and then scrapping what i don't use... Pyro... thats my exact logic...

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
Good luck i have gone to a insurance auction or two trucks go sky high even totaled ones.Have you call around to any diesel shop and ask if they have a 12 valve?Have you tried ebay there is some 12 valves cheap enough to rebuild and have a good engine.

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
Just save your money and give it time. The more time passes, the easier it will be to find a wrecked 6.7 truck. The key though, is to have the money when you find the deal. Good luck with it man.

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
The motor mounts/ cross member you got a few options on http://www.avalancheengineering.com/new_products.html or http://www.tndieselpower.com/site/pr...ember-package/ http://www.autoworldmt.com/Page_11.html between autoworldmt and http://www.destroked.com/parts.php most of the parts are covered but the wiring of the ecu.Or they sell a standalone ecu for the 6.7 but its like 3800 lol.For a intercooler i heard the 99-04 powerstroke one fits these trucks pretty good.

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
I have been looking for a square body 4x4 to do a 12 valve swap but most of these trucks here are rusted and beat to hell or high priced.Might end up getting a f250 to do it to just gotta get my savings up enough to start lol.

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
I won't try and talk you out of this cause you have your mind made up... because you sound EXACTLY like me when i start talking about a 5.9 swap to all my 454 gas guzzling loving buddies...
But for the love of god if you jump off this bridge, please make sure you have a camera handy and document the hell out of it... This might be of interest to you... 6.7L swap Ihave combed threw that thread weighing my options between and 5.9 and 6.7... And that thread single handily convinced me to use a 12V

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
Only other things i can think of is something like a vintage air kit would give you more clearance on the firewall for the turbo,And make sure you use the steering box brace because of the extra weight.

Only think I could offer up is call destroked. They WERE developing a stand alone ECM for the 6.7L. That was some time ago and I remember seeing a few videos on there website about it but i never heard any more about it. I also have no interested in the 6.7L so i never paid attention. If your not already, sign up for cumminsforum. at the bottom of there forum list is the conversions thread. As one last ditch effort to convince you other wise, have you looked into or are you aware of Auto World? They make brackets for out trucks for swapping in the 6bt engines. we'll talking bolt in bracket that set the engine at the perfect angle, allows you to use a mechanical fan, etc etc. They even offer a high mount kit that moves the A/C compressor up so you don't have to cut you frame. They even offer a "quad" mount set up for 600hp+ applications 1k all said and done... I am ordering my this winter. I couldn't fab my own motors mounts let alone the high mount kit and get half the quality these are. Not only that but i'll waste enough time and make enough mistakes to have paid for those brackets 2-3times over... I only got 12 days to do my swap when i get to it. They've been doing swaps since 89 i think so they know there stuff

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
Is there a kit for this steering box brace? or is that where the guys box the frame around the steering box and run the bolts right threw to the other side of the frame?

Re: Decided On a Motor.....Now Just Gotta Find One
im doing a duramax and ally so dont feel bad
5.9 cr would be nice but i would want a 6speed auto. i dont see why you couldnt get the engine trans transfercase front axle wiring harness ecm and tcm and swap it in really. you would need a totalled out new dodge for parts and maybeye some tuning and other parts but its doable really. it will be money but its all the perks of a new dodge ram in a classic body plus new dodge is 60k. you could build this for alot less still. |

I'm just going to say it once. That site sucks! They do have some cool projects on there, but pay little attention to 80% of the BS people post on there!
