Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

I never got tired of it, but my girlfriend did when she sat next to me(it was my last truck, I have auto now). A little annoying in traffic jams but fun the rest of the time.

Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

My preference is the manual. It just gives me something to do

I'm thinking about swapping my SM465 for something a little more modern, but it will still be a manual.

Cool Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

My truck is my DD so I decided to make it more pleasurable while driving. It's a Auto 700R-4! When you have a weekend truck the manual is OK but for everyday auto is the way to go.

Yes girls do like my truck also! My daughter drives it a lot.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I plow snow with my manual, no complaints. I also use it for launching boats all the time.

It's all personal preference, really. I've owned both types and I'd rather have a stick.

that said, I did swap my SM465 to NV4500. Really the only difference is the overdrive, otherwise it feels like the same box.

Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

I've driven both and prefer the automatic for ease of driving but like the response of the manual shift.

My 69 chevy (now in pieces) was converted to auto and was great for towing and driving but my 68 GMC is more fun with the 3 on the column. Plus it keeps my wife from driving it.

Bottom line, if you like both, get one each.

Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

I have owned both...

My CJ was 4 spd manual, with a super heavy clutch. Learned to drive it with 3 feet, and loved it.

My 55 was an auto, with manual valve body, I really miss it.

My F-250 is a man 5 spd, towing machine, love it.

My Dodge CTD is auto/ ATS built, a blast to drive.

My 69 is auto, and someday I will get to drive it.

Ect...

By far, the most fun, pleasurable trans was the auto with the manual valve body. It cruised thru PHX rush hour traffic with little effort from me. When it was time to play, it was awesome. I could easily bark the tires through every gear, then down shift it through the corners. Tight turning mountain highways were a hoot!

I contemplated the man VB in my 69, but decided to let it cruise more than eat. My next truck build will be low lean and mean, and I'll save the valve body for it.

So I guess it's what you want to do with it

Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

Releasing the transbrake button on my 55 when the converter is flashed at about 4800rpms sure doesn't feel girly to me. That wimpy little 2 speed powerglide sure does agood job.

Like others said there is a place for both, and it comes down the the individual.

My 69 C10 has a M-20 muncie 4 speed
My 55 belair has a powerglide
My Camaro has nothing but will probably get another th700r4.

Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

I like the TOT for the nostalgia.I like the OD whether 5-6 speed or auto for a driver. In traffic,I like the auto but I'm not gonna avoid it just cause I'm in a stick. For a drag ride an auto is the only way to go (Consistent shifts)

Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

If you know how to drive manual there a lot of fun. Sm465s will never be out dated, there's still an always will be a demand for them. Ive seen manuals beat autos an ive seen auto beat manuals. It's ALL about the gearing an how it was built an what it was built for. Sm465 is built for pulling an work.
That being said I never get sick of the sm465 but im 20.

love it OJ.....(more of those "girly auto's") the fastest street car I ever rode in by far had a full manual valve body auto/with trans brake.....and could pull the fronts off the ground, no problem "pretty wimpy" fer sher.....too bad it wasn't a "real hot rod"

Re: Do you guys get tired of shifting gears?

There's a reason my truck is gettin an AUTO behind the Cummins...

I don't like holes in my floor board (;

I'm 18, drive a little 86 Nissan pickup with a 5 speed, it's cool and all, but I'd still rather not be grabbing gears, if I'm grabbing gears I wanna be one of my bikes.

How about a 4L60E or 4L80E with paddle shifters? Now there is the best of both worlds.

i think it has something to do with taking life easy after those long, hard years of movin' that silly clutch in and out over and over and over again (almost 40 yrs of nothing but sticks here). besides, fastwillie696969 in his usual succinctness got me thinkin about it.
