Re: New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette

Thanks Ya'll!! I really had no idea this project would go over this well. I like it but for some it's still almost 11'' shorter than any I've seen. I really don't have any long term plans for this one. That is to say it will go up for sale when it's done. It was built with the iintentions of it being a driver for my wife but we decided work full time in my shop and quite my day job. (I'm 55 with a bad back). I do however have another C5 6 speed car waiting as well as 2 more AD cabs. One a 3 window and anoother 5 window. Number 2 will be more of a loud, low, big brakes and sticky tires. Would realy like to have some fun with a autocross venue.

Again thanks for all the kind words and II'll see why I don't get notified by email when someone post here.

After you type a response, drop down a little further to "Additional Options" and make sure "Instant Email Notification" is selected.

Re: New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette

Well is it the way you planned it?
What is the most interesting thing about the truck, besides the right peddle
What are the plans for the number two truck
Why the color change?
How do these trucks work with a high center of gravity on all independent suspension?

I am sure it drives as good as it looks !

I would have to say it was Better than I planned as far as fitting and fab work. As far as driving it's only been to the glass shop and until it final alinement I can't see how it performs on say auto cross but around town it's a real blast.
Most interesting I have say all the sound proofing I put in with the clean 700 watt stereo and real tight ride steering and brakes. It feels more Vette than AD now for sure.
Color change came way of me being kinda picky so it went off to paint shop prison for more than a year when it came to getting it done I went with a solid color. All and all they did a nice job.
Next truck sheet metal is sitting until this one is sold. I plan on a more agresive look. I've been want to try chopping a roof so a do that.

Awesome. Love the color.

When you said you "narrowed the vette frame" what does that mean?

Re: New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette

Cant find the edit button. I was under the assumption the vette didn't have a "frame" as I have seen rolling chassis that are in appearance self supporting.

Yeah the C5's do have a full frame. They are just way too wide as the frame rails go from rocker to rocker to use without narrowing in the mid section.
They are a fair amount of work to get down to a bare frame. It's much easier to to just drop the drive train front & rear with the torque tube.
