Re: Operation : In to Deep!

got a lot of work done today, the biggest pain in the ass was the tranny crossmember. I dont have a torch so i had to cut the rivets with a wheel. removed the brake lines, fuel lines, and took the front fenders, bumper and core support off, pulled all the wiring also. Ready for the blast man. dropping it off in the morning!

got my baby back from the blast man. Primed it and waiting for my paint to come in. Going to topcoat with "Hardnose Paint" from POR 15. Its a really kick-ass 2 part industrial paint. I think it was the correct choice for this application.

take a flat blade screw driver and litely push the lip down and push the lip of the plug through the hole in the frame.. you'll have to work this around some..
but it's quite easy..

remember the kiddir banks that had the plug on the bottom to get the money out. it's holding that plug in the same manner

Re: Operation : In to Deep!

Great build and thanks for the inspiration man, I am just as knee deep as you as I purchased my first c10 and going through the same sleepless nights. But I am going to five it a shot even if it takes 10 years....

I am having the same rocker panel issues as your truck, I am keen to see how you going to repair that section. Please post pics and parts you going to use to repair the rocker panels.

great work and all the best.

Re: Operation : In to Deep!

Well got a few days off for the holidays. Did a few small things. floor pan looks like swiss cheese. Had a friend take a look and give me some advice about this.

his reply to my questions were basically this. "buy a new cab, spend alot of money to pay me to fix it, buy a floor pan and learn how to weld."

Any inspiring comments?

Re: Operation : In to Deep!

Inspiration is a New cab from Arizona!

I am going to look at one for my first C10 in 20 years. Codename: Bucket (as in Rust).

CA Central Coast Weather has not been kind to my beast.

Yours is looking good though! What I did to get my welder (a Lincoln 140) was use my Home depot Military Discount (10%) and used a gift card purchased from one of those giftcard resale places on the net. (another 9.5% discount) Then all the extras (Masks etc.) from Harbor Freight.

Welding isnt hard. Welding pretty is hard. If you decide to do it yourself, just jump in, buy some old junk panels at the yard and chop em up then see if you can put them back together a few times.

Good luck!

Re: Operation : In to Deep!

I'm in the process of taking off the cross-member now, while i was cleaning up the top of it i just wasn't happy with the underside and the sandblasting/ primer job. gonna take it off and have a do-over on this section. I'm gonna drive myself nuts, i'm kind of a perfectionist with things like this. nobody else would ever notice this stuff but i will always know its there.
