Re: 292 mounts vs 250 mounts
I would like to see a picture of the difference in the engine stands if possible?

Re: 292 mounts vs 250 mounts
As soon as I can post some pics you will see that they look identical. I am pretty sure that they will interchange. That will be a good thing.

Re: 292 mounts vs 250 mounts
I was curious about this, too. I knew I had one set of 250's and 2 sets of 292's, so I did some comparin'
This is the driver's side, 250 is the motor and the 292 is held up near. They seem to be the same*: Here is the same thing on the pass. side-clearly different: Pass. side: Driver's side: * Now-here's something I've never heard mentioned before. Like I said, I have 2 sets of the 292's. The first one came in the big box of parts that came with the basket case 292 I bought. The second came off a 292 that I know to be the original motor from a '69 3/4 ton FWD. The pieces themselves seem more or less identical BUT-on the one I pulled off the '69, it had these 2 little spacers that were between the block and the mount. I wired them to the mount so I wouldn't lose them. They are about 3/4" long. You can see them in this picture kinda: That's all I know about these. I was surprised, I never had really looked at them before and I thought they were all the same.

Re: 292 mounts vs 250 mounts
One other thing. When I said both sets of the 292's seemed 'more or less' the same, this is the minor difference:
The ones in the top of the picture were off the '69, the others were in the basket. If you look close, there is a little "notch" (for lack of a better word) in the top of the lower set (down in the picture-I should have rotated the picture) But now that I'm looking at that picture, the 2 sets seem a little off. Maybe it's the camera angle, but I want to go out and take another look at these.

Re: 292 mounts vs 250 mounts
Ok pritch, so what I am seein with your 250 motor is the drivers side is clearly longer than the passenger side. That is exactly how LockDocs 250 is as well. My 1968 survivor C10 swb with the original 292 has the exact same setup. So, I guess it would be safe to assume that if install the new 250 stands and transfer over the engine mounts from my 292 to the 250 it should bolt right in.....hopefully

Re: 292 mounts vs 250 mounts
One thing that you may want to check is if the spacing on the bolts is the same on both the 292 and 250 block mounts. For some reason, I think the bolt pattern in a little smaller on the 292... ie the triangle formed by the bolt holes in smaller or the holes aren't spaced out as much...

Re: 292 mounts vs 250 mounts
My truck came with the 327, some one also told me that now I have to replace the V-8 Perches with Straight 6 perches, so to do the swap I will need ,
1. New Perches that bolt to the frame. 2. New Motor mounts that bolt to the Perch. 3. New "Stands" that bolt to the mounts and Engine. Do you think that sounds right? Thanks Robert |
