Re: How fast in your ol truck

I run 85-90 quite a bit on the interstate with 235/75/15 tires, love the look when people have on their face getting passed by an old truck. Only have a little window shake other than that rides like my other cars. With rims tires are 32in in height and do it at lower rpm.

Re: How fast in your ol truck

55 mph........ then the engine starts bucking/cutting out.

I think I have it fixed though, but now the front suspension is off for a disc conversion so I haven't been able to test it.

Re: How fast in your ol truck

Several years ago I bought a '72 Cheyenne lonbed with factory 402 big block and TH400 trans (110,000 miles) from the original owner. The only change from stock was a high rise cast iron factory intake from a Chevelle. That truck had great top end performance.

One night on my way to my girl friend's house, I challenged an '87 Buick Grand National on the Cumberland Parkway. I got the '72 up to what appeared to be about 15 MPH beyond the 100 MPH mark on the speedo when the GN decided to quit playing with me and pullled away like I was standing still. I was impressed with how well the Cheyenne felt at those speeds and gained a lot of respect for GN's that night.

Dumb person here....what are you supposed to put in the RPM box? pluck a figure out the air or the max that the gauge goes to or what??

I'm sorry i'm not trying to be rude, but this just is not happening. I have been in the performance industry for a very long time, and there is no way a stockish 350 is going to push that truck to 150+ MPH.

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that you do not have 3.08 gears in the rear end of that truck, That really is the only explanation if this all actually happened like you say it did.

My stock 2003 Corvette, with a 340 HP LS1 and a six speed, tops out of 178 mph. So your saying a truck made in the 70's that weighs about twice as much, has considerably less horsepower, an automatic transmission (with associated drivetrain loses), and wind resistance equal to a school bus only comes in 20 mph behind it?

Re: How fast in your ol truck

Lol, this thread is funny.

Your truck WONT go 155mph with a worn out 350 with an RV cam...lmao

I've been street racing (tracked also) several different high performance cars
for over 10 years, and alot of people just don't get it.

I own a stalled/cammed full bolt on 01z right now and it takes longer than you
think to hit 150 in that car @ 400rw......not happening in your old truck.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: How fast in your ol truck

I had a '72 SWB with a ZZ3-350, 700R4 and 3.08 rear. I was able to get it to 119 (GPS). I thought sheet metal was going to come off at that speed. I've gone faster in other vehicles, but this seemed way faster than it really was. It would go faster in 3rd gear than it would in OD.

Re: How fast in your ol truck

340 horsepower will push a full size car to 178 mph? Certainly a 350 will not push a truck to 150+ without some serious work but I did not realize that only 340 HP would push a car (given it's a light one) that fast. And we all know that 20 mph when u get above about 150 is BIG. My friends 450 pound street bike makes over 115 HP and even it runs out of power and can't push it over 174.

Now I don't feel so dumb, and that calculator is not compensating for convertor slippage due to fluid coupling so 155.7 becomes 132.3 assuming 85% convertor slippage (which is assuming alot, I would estimate more like 80% which is closer to 125mph)

Yes, C5 corvette 6 speed cars are rated (and confirmed) to 178 MPH, and rated at 340 HP.

Sure it could. All you have to do is aim at the edge of a cliff and floor it.

Very simple to hook up. If you just use the speedo it's a power wire and ground and run the anntena for the satilite.
Here is my video.

You're kidding. I'm excited about it.

Why? I still have problems getting ANYONE to believe that I got my Nash Rambler running down the Grapevine at a confirmed 328.4 mph back in '69.

I only did it once. Then I lost my tin foil hat.

I hit 70 once but I started worrying too much about speeding instead of enjoying the ride, so I slowed back down

Re: How fast in your ol truck

I hit ~110 in my 72 GMC (supped up 327) at night in HS....then realized how I couldn't stop if a deer or something jumped out in front of me and slowed back down.

There is a difference between what speed your vehicle can actually do, and what it calculates out to be at max RPM. You have to have the power to overcome all of the forces that are in play to go that fast.

I went 116 in my Firebird Formula while messing with a tuner one day, and about 113 in my vette at the track. Thats the fastest I've driven. I've also ridden in a car going about 134 legally (my dad's a state trooper )

Re: How fast in your ol truck

Fastest i've ever gone was 155 +/- a few mph in my old K20z1 swapped '92 civic hatchback.

Fastest i went in the truck when i drove it home the day i bought it was roughly 90 mph on I25 up from canyon city. Once it's done and driving again, i doubt it'll ever see anything over 100 mph, since it'll be a fairly stock 350 w/ th350.

Agreed on the fact that there's no chance in hell 152 mph is possible on a mostly stock 350 in such a large vehicle. To put things in perspective, my '92 hatchback weighed in at approximately 2000 lbs with a half tank of gas or so, and made 230 horsepower to the wheels (with I/H/E and a tune). I could have probably pushed it closer to 160+ because i had the power and the gearing (not to mention i rev'd it to 8800 rpm), but there's no fear like going that fast in a car made to get a grandma to the store and back. Didn't feel safe above 140 or so.
