Trust me 12 or 13 mpg is all you will get.350/ 350 with 3.08 gears is what I've got.That is on a good day. down hill, strong wind behind you pushing it

I think you might be able to pull off a 700R4 with the 3.08's.But to get the engine back into the torque curve(where it's efficient and gets some milage) you would probably have to run tires off of an Escort(very short).The engine running in it's power band is one of the most important aspects of getting milage.Figure you need to be running in the 2200-2500 rpm range to get in the power.You might also be able to get there running 90 but I doubt you can keep a license for long.
An S10 or Toyota with OD might be a good choice,then a C10 for weekend cruzin.
