That good sir....Is nothing short of GORGEOUS! In my dreams thats what this truck would turn out to be.

You have given me inspiration that the Army Green can be a gloss paint. I think you just made my decision.......

Redleg - My Dad, 'No Neck' .. I think you guys have talked in the past is a commercial artist. I would bet he'd draw up a pinup girl for you and/or stencils for you to paint it on. He's really good at freehand and could help you come up with something I'm sure.

I personally like your truck like it is. IMO, a 4.5 / 6" drop would suit it very well .. hint. that $1k would drop it too and not worry about paint (?) just sayin. ..

Re: Stay Rat or.....Go all the way????

One thing is you truck is definitely not a rat rod, a rat rod is something that is thrown together with what you have laying around. Flat paint etc. does not make it a rat rod (many people think that now but not in my eyes) just have to say that. It's your truck do what you want but i like the white walls, and painted wheels i have them on mine too, i was going to make a show truck out of mine but i went a total 180 and went with a shop truck with painted steelies and white walls. i'm don't like chrome out stuff anymore never liked big wheels so i'm different Just my .02

Re: Stay Rat or.....Go all the way????

I skimmed so forgive me if I missed this but IF you break it down and paint it, it wont stop there. YOU WILL want to upgrade other things. What condition is your weatherstripping in? What condition are other things in? I'm not saying don't do it and I think it looks good now. I don't think Rats are dead and I believe they are here to stay in one form or another. Look over the truck as a whole and think about what those little things that bug you will look like surrounded in shiny paint. Keep it a driver and stare at it for a long time. If you deciede to paint it make sure you have everything you need so it doesn't end up lying in the garage waiting for the next piece to make it what you want. Its a driver...keep it that way unless you have it planned out completely. Always plan for 20% in cost over runs.

THe plan is to actually make the truck completely solid. Right now my wanted list is:

Front Grill assembly
Rocker panels both sides
Inner cab roof (2 small rusted out places)
tailgate
rear bumper
RH side bed replaced
new mirrors
new motor
new tranny
all new rubber (weatherstripping)

It will be "almost" a complete restoration. I know there are some things under the body that probably could use the work, however the truck is very sound body and mechanically. None of this stuff has to be replaced. It just has enough problems with it that i want it fixed and i dont plan to go the bondo way...

Re: Stay Rat or.....Go all the way????

My 2 Cents on this...

I recently sold a satin black 32 Ford Roadster that was more old school than rat rod & after owning that car I've decided that I wont go with satin (or flat) paint again.
I had a harder time keeping it clean & detailed than I did with a gloss paint job.
With base coat/clear coat you can alway wax, buff, etc any imperfections.

Also, i think if you take the time to do the bodywork to get it all straight why not spray clear on it?

The rat rod look is bad ass! Nice paint and chrome is cool, but it's not where it's at.

Re: Stay Rat or.....Go all the way????

On second thought, looking through your list of 'to do's' .. After you're finished fixing stuff it's probably going to need some paint work too. While you have it apart.. You might as well do it right. It's going to cost more but you'll be happier with the overall results. There are so many opinions to consider and the crazy thing about it.. Everyone is 'correct'.. I guess it all boils down to, the length of time you can be without it (Daily Driver) and the budget you have to work with.

Ever thought about learning to paint? I'm going to try and paint my 69 myself. If I can't get it to look right I'll sand it back off and do Faux-Tina / Hot Rod Flatz.

You really can't go wrong man. These trucks look good either way.
Later.
