Yes, and not only that but grade 8, USA made, case hardened. Most of theirs are made by LE which is Lake Erie hardware made in Frankfort Indiana. Cat has the best bolts out there. Not for every use and not cheap, but if you need a wierd length in an odd size, they probably have it. I needed an 11" long 7/16 bolt and they had that. 7/16 is not a common carry size around here. Cat had it.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk

I'd trust grade 5 from a more reputable vendor than cheapo grade 8.

The statement that grade 8 is often used when unecessary is absolutely true if you are talking about legitimate grade 8. The stories of "it twisted off by hand" are definitely not legitmate grade 5's.

Good to know and good to hear there are still some bolts made in the USA. Do they have grade 5 as well?

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk

Just for reference grade 8 bolts are good for a lot of things, but use grade 5 bolts on suspension pieces, they will bend rather than shear if something goes wrong, or heaven forbid you end up in a wreck

I don't know, never tried. I always use grade 8 for everything on a vehicle. I use grade 5 on some stuff around the house from the generic bins at Lowes or Tractor Supply. I went to a Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) class for 2 days called "Threaded Fasteners and the Bolted Joint". To condense the class into one sentence, the teacher basically said to use grade 8 with a nylock nut for everything.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk

so how do i find the best grade 8 or the best grade 5? Are the marked specifically? I dont think my ACE here sells the good grade 8 USA stuff. I'd spend more on the USA parts.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk

Despite popular belief, there is no "best" grade 8 or "best" grade 5 bolt, to receive that grading it has to test at a certain tensile strength. Grade 8 bolts have 6 hash marks on the head, and grade 5 have 3 has marks on the head of the bolt, pick up whatever you need, Grade 8 shear(aka break) easier than grade 5 bolts, which have a tendency to bend, so if using on a suspension piece, make sure your grade 8 bolts have some type of double shear bracket...

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk

I'm thinking of replaceing all the rivets holding on the rear leaf spring bracketts and need some new ones for the front suspension assembly were it attaches to the frame.

Whats a double shear bracket?

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk

grade 8 should be more than enough, even grade 5 would work just fine, just remember to use locktite. as for double shear brackets, if you had a shock, with a tab on both sides of the shock, with a bolt going all the way through, that would be an example of a double shear bracket, where there are two places that absorb the tension, and hence have two places to shear.
