Re: 72 K5 CST Blazer Build

Started to clean up the grill. I think I'm going to paint the center black. I think it'll look really sharp with the color combination.

However, I've got to tackle this severe nick in the lower corner before going too far. I think I'll be able to fill this, sand it to contour, and then use some chrome paint to blend it. Hopefully this will allow me to repair and keep the stock grill at least...

Re: 72 K5 CST Blazer Build

Lots of progress the last couple of weeks on the body as well. All the trim is now on. Rubber on the doors. New tilt steering column installed.

If you look closely, you'll notice the roll bar has been modified and moved back about 6 inches to make more room for the new seats.

Just need to finish painting the hood and tailgate and get them back on....

Customized Glove Box Door was the accomplishment for the weekend. Also got the dash pad and Instrument Panel installed this past week.

Re: 72 K5 CST Blazer Build

Pictures from the last couple of days. Finished painting the grille and polishing. We got it installed, got the spare tire carrier back on, and backseat bolted in. Just have the bumpers, front seats, then I'll wire the stereo equipment. It's looking like a truck again....

Re: 72 K5 CST Blazer Build

Got the soft top installed. It fits like a glove and is a bit too tight so hopefully it'll warm up and stretch a bit more for an easier fit. Just about ready to call the body work done!

Almost have the exterior completely done. Just need to put on the front bumper and fabricate some steps so my wife and kids can get in. Here's a picture of the top rolled up and rear spare tire carrier with gas can.

Re: 72 K5 CST Blazer Build

Looks terrific. You make tremendous progress every week. I haven't ordered my top yet but I am wondering about the directions for install - are they good? Don't want to drill any wrong holes when mounting the side tracks or the front windshield bar. What's your take on them?

Thanks. The directions for the top are OK and are 4-5 pages. We would have been better off if we had actually read them to start with

The only holes you have to drill are for the ones for the front header bar for the front snaps. I believe there where 5 holes in total. The directions show you exactly where to place the bar. The side rails use the existing holes for the hard top bolts. One minor issue I'm having with the top is the way the door shuts onto the top. See the pictures below. When we put everything back together on the blazer and adjusted the gaps as best we could, the door gap is fairly tight. I think the top is supposed to fold inside the door edge but it's a very tight fit on mine given the adjustments and paint thickness. I hope I can get my door guards on but that's yet another issue for another day..... Not sure how I'm going to fix the top/door issue but I'll likely cut and restitch the edge just so it fits nicely. I need to send the photo to the company and ask also. I think even with a normal gap it would probably be tight. Hope this helps. I think the top looks great and it seems very well made.

Re: 72 K5 CST Blazer Build

Calling the body work, paint, etc. done. Now I'm going to start focusing on the interior. Also noticed the brakes need some work on the drive home from the body shop. Kind of a bad deal when a guys put a bunch of money into a paint job and you can't stop the rig... LOL :-)

Here's a couple of pictures from the driveway. At least it's back in my home shop. Things are a lot cheaper there....

Looking great. You don't have to go out of your driveway for a scenic shot, do you? Stunning view of Flathead Lake right out of your windows.

Thanks. I consider myself very lucky to have an unbelievable view here in Montana. Here are a couple of my favorite pictures of the view from my place. The moon rising over Angel Point on Flathead Lake and the kids jumping off our dock at sunset. Can't wait to now go around the lake with the top down on the Blazer!
