I like the truck. Good score. It looks way nice and I'm sure it will be much nicer once you start building it up. Have a few questions about that radiator. I have a later model one as well that is taller than stock ones. Was wondering what the height was on yours? And if the hood still shuts just fine with a taller one?

I got the front end pulled off today, going to clean and paint the firewall and chassis. Then I'll be ready to set the motor and trans in and get the motor running before I put the front end back together.
I also got a delivery today from the truck shop. They put $1200 worth in those four boxes. Check out the new radiator support I got, this might be common knowledge to some, but I didn't know that they produce them without the kinks at the bends like the originals had. I was thinking of deleting the kinks anyway , I guess now I won't have too.

Made some slow progress over the last couple of days, pulled the steering column yesterday to change the color to black, wasn't digging the silver. I also collapsed the intermediate shaft three inches to make more room for my gut.

I've also been cleaning up the brackets and pulleys and trying to figure out my fan and shroud setup. I had to clearance the manifold for the alternator bracket I'm going to use, I think the manifold was from a 68 setup I had which used a different alt. bracket.
I had a little help yesterday afternoon, that's the oldest grandson, he came out while I was blasting and was jumping up and down to do it , so I put him to work.

I think GM should have put an access panel there for getting stuff like those leaves out of there. Just about every old truck has something in there. I would make a panel if I was keeping just heat.
But like slomotion said seal it well. You don't want gasses in the cab.

I started working on fixing the cab supports today, all of them are rusted out . I started on the drivers side, which also needs the forward floor pan replaced.
The first three pics are what it looked like to start, someone thought fiberglass was the right way to fix this as you can see. The forth pic is what the bottum of the front pillar looks like, it really needs to be fixed, but I'm trying to hold off till I paint the truck since the rocker will have to come off. Someone cut everything but the ends of the old rockers off and put a new one on, so they need to be replaced anyway. The last pic is behind the rear cab support.

I went ahead and cut out the bad parts of the floor pan, I included a pic of the patch panel for those who might be thinking of ordering one. The patch cost $25 and the shipping was $56 crazy ain't it.
The second pic is what they tried to fix with fiberglass. The last pic is of the rear shock, check out the spring around it. Never seen one like that, nor am I sure of its purpose?

I've almost finished the drivers side rust repair, I've been working on it for four days now. It turned out nice, I just need to dress the welds and put in the rear cab support which I hope to get to tommorow.
The last pic is where I repaired the inner rocker/ floorboard behind the rear cab support.

I got started on the passenger side today. The floor pan is in good shape on this side. The lower kick panel,cab supports, inner rocker, front and rear lower pillars are in bad shape.The outer rocker is decent it only has one bad place on top.
I'm going to replace the cab supports and just cap the inner rocker for now, since to fix this right I will have to remove the outer rocker. I plan on painting the truck later and can fix it right then. The first couple of pics are of the rear drivers cab support, and the last pics are of the pasenger side.

Finished up the pass. side rust repair earlier this week, the cab supports turned out pretty nice. I just capped the inner rocker for now, I'll fix it right later when I replace the rocker.
Laying on your back welding and grinding is a great time! I started scraping and cleaning 40 years worth of grease and dirt off the underside and chassis today, hope to be done on the underside in the next couple of weeks.

I've been making some good progress over the last couple of weeks , I scraped, wire wheeled and did a lot of grinding on the underside of the truck and then spray bombed the bottum and chassis black(it was not a fun job).
Yesterday I spayed the front of the chassis with acrylic enamel along with several small parts, the chassis turned out decent but did have some trash in it, since this is a driver I'm going to live with it. You can see in the pics that the chassis has overspray all over it now, I'll have to wash it off. Today I sprayed the firewall with nason BC/CC paint and it turned out really nice. I am pleased with how it looks considering I only do paint work about every three years.
