Re: some christmas present...

Sucks to hear that about your ride...hope everything works out all in the end. I wish I had a shop to recommend, but I too am on the lookout for a body shop to spray my truck in the spring.

Dunno if you've already seen this, but there's a guy on Craigslist always advertising 73-87 chevy truck parts in Windsor Locks. He's probably got what you need

Btw if you find a stash of 5-lug 12-bolt 3.73 posi's (lol) let me know!

Good luck!

Very good idea here...I don;t know about the rules where you live but here insurance can only recommend shops to have your car repaired, so it remains our choice where to take it. There are maximums for what insurance will pay for particular parts but better shops will use better repo's if available if you ask them to.

Good luck, I'm really glad your rims weren't damaged, they are great!!

haha Ive actually bought parts from him before and called him the other night, unfortunatly he didn't have a rear for me. The insurance guy recomended olenders and they have a good rep so thats where Im going tomorrow after work. I hate to drive it with the bent spring scrubbing the rear tires but its only a few miles up the road from me.

Yea, luckily they cant force me to have it fixed at a body shop here so I can take a check and fix it myself and use the money that would of went towards labor on better parts ect. I just want an estimate from a third party instead of someone looking to get away for the cheapest possible, I think I'd honestly have trouble putting this back together myself with the money they've offered so far.

I like the wheels too, thankfully they're fairly strong (the car that hit me climbed right up that back one) and I do have a matching spare just in case. I searched long and hard for those, bought a set of 15x7 thinking they were 15x8 and then found the 15x10s you see in the pic a week later.

Re: some christmas present...

my wife was rear ended as a passenger in her sisters car a month ago... the driver was going 15-20mph...the damage was only $400, but they both got a $1500 "pain and suffering" payment, or as i called it: "here's some money to shut you up, don't call a lawyer please" payment

Re: some christmas present...

For sure get a doctor visit just in case you have neck or back pain in the future even if you feel fine now.. sometimes problems don't show up right away. Looks like a pretty good impact, you had to have gotten shook pretty good. Also, make the ins get you a rental car until yours is repaired.. if they balk at helping you out don't hesitate to get the local media involved, they hate bad publicity... best of luck to you, and glad it wasn't worse!

Re: some christmas present...

yup got the rental and im getting paid the cost of the rental for every day I was without my truck before they got me the rental. Went and Talked to the body shop today and they thought the estimate was crap but couldn't get me much more. Somehow they got away with using the low value from nada of 4550 so the most I can get is 3600 and no total. Not what I was hoping for but I guess I can put it back together for that.

I dont want to beat this to death, but this is a classic example of the games they play dont give in too easy. The longer they have to pay for a rental the more motivated they will get to come up on thier payout. They will play this game to the last minute.

Im just out of arguments, the guy wouldn't even come up any more when the body shop guy called and told him it would take 8 grand to fix the truck.

Re: some christmas present...

i almost had an idiot kid run to the back of me while txting. i was on a 2 lane road at a dead stop with my blinker on waiting to make a left turn onto a side street. they had to slam on the breaks and lock up the wheel. they came about 2 inches from slamming me. i got out of the car and gave the kid a stern talking to in the middle of the road.

i used to work in a body shop and i didnt personally deal with the ins companies, but i saw all the BS they tried to pull to get out of paying. they will try to find any excuse to pay you the minimum they can.

They have not "got away" with anything until you let them. It doesn't look like a low book truck to me.

Please go speak with an attorney! This forum is a great place to interact with fellow truck owners and get advice concerning the trucks. This place is NOT a place to get legal advice!

Hell the Bed $350 to 400, Then back wheels and rims are $200+ , Then you got tail pipes

You need to tell the insurance man if HE CAN find a truck for that price then he needs to BUY IT NOW

Thats about where we're at now. Reluctantly drove it to a body shop close by on friday and the guy immediatly called the ins adjuster and told him his quote was a joke. Everyone agrees the truck is totaled and the adjuster is fine with not actually totaling the truck to save the title. I just don't agree with what they valued the truck at so im having to fight to make him put the value where it belongs or at least something a little closer.

Since everyone is done looking at the truck I started tearing into it saturday. Got the broken rear and springs pulled and new springs hung, Im having trouble finding another 12 bolt with 3.73s so Im still waiting on that at the moment otherwise it would at least be driveable until the spring when I can do a cab swap.

Re: some christmas present...

Thanks man, my neighbor keeps talking about going to auction to buy a newer one and my father felt bad and offered to chip in some money to put with whatever I get from insurance and go buy something else. They just don't get it, It's my truck I like it and I want that one, not something somebody else built. I'd rather spend the money on this one and come out with a better truck than I started with. There wasn't a day where I stopped to get gas or whatever when somebody didn't compliment me on it and ask if I built it. I'd feel pretty embarassed to say no somebody else did. After all it did kinda save my ass, the least I can do is put it back together. I'd hate to think what could of happened if I had been in a car or something, that was and awful hard hit. The passenger side axle tube is completly free from the housing and the spring broke in 3 places on that side with big 10 springs.

Yeah man I completely agree with you, I would rather have my own truck that I put my time into. I'm only 17 and I have saved my truck many times from scrappers and people trying to buy the truck. I always felt this would be the only way I would some form of a classic. My truck might be a rusty piece of crap to others or a scrap pile to them. But to me it's my first truck and it will proably be my baby forever. I even turn down a trade on a 1972 Chevelle with only the only thing wrong was it needed a frame. And with evereyone more concerned about texting instead of driving I would much rather be driving around in the truck. Being in highschool it scares me sometimes listening to people talk about how they text and drive and almost hit stuff. Anyways hope everything works out for you and get to build your truck back up to your specs.

Re: some christmas present...

Im pretty sure the kid that hit me was texting or playing with the phone. He never even hit the brakes and he was in between two lanes. I've already had one guy want to buy it after the accident claiming "that would make a great farm truck"... That pissed me off about as much as much as everything else. Ive about had it with people lately.
