on these truck's it's pretty easy to raise the bed floor , then you could add a small notch and get lower with out the diff hit'n.

Very true, but that opens a can of worms up front. Its actually lower in the rear already, so going lower would compound issues. As pictured my truck is as low as you can go and keep the stock fenderliners. You can gain a little by removing the liners, but then your up against the A/C. You can remove that, but then the crossmember is on the ground....you get the picture.

Re: Bagged trucks with NO dropmember or Z'd frame

Ken, I think your truck has a nice stance. I think I am going to put some very small "bumpers" on also, to just keep the truck off the ground just enough to drive if I had a bag failure. I like your idea there.

For reference Matt, my truck as measured and shown in the thread, is with the crossmember on the ground.

Ya thanks for the picture and measurements. This is actually a harder decision then finding the "right" wheels.

Re: Bagged trucks with NO dropmember or Z'd frame

My 85 was bagged f/b/s/s with 20's..........I would put your 22's on the truck and then take your measurements you will be able figure the rear if you want to lower more. and when you measure the front make sure you can turn your wheels without them rubbing the fenders, you might turn the wheel and they just clear but when your driving around a turn at 40mph or turning and driving on a winding road you will find out that just clearing isnt good. if your rear is at a set ride height and the you bag the front and have to raise the front higher than the rear to drive it that might look funny.

Re: Bagged trucks with NO dropmember or Z'd frame

Hahah! Nice picture, I wouldn't dare take my truck out in this stuff. I can only imagine someone destroying the side of my truck because they panicked and hit the brakes! Luckily its going away!

Oldschool18 thanks for the info, And I actually know that just clearing isn't good enough. I had a bad experience when I had my 20s on the truck and my inner fenders. To fast into a corner, body roll, tire hitting fender hard, bouncing me into other lane almost wrecking. Thus why I now have no inner fenders. However, once fenders were out of the truck I could really haulass in the corners. I had my 22s built to pull the front wheels in a little bit to solve that problem even further.

Re: Bagged trucks with NO dropmember or Z'd frame

So after several several months I finally got my new wheels on and know what suspension set up I want to use. I will start a new thread and post up pictures tomorrow when its light out.

Anyways, I think I want to use the Ridetech 4 link out back and up front a set of PB control arms that center the front wheels.

Have you ever thought about using the Porterbuilt 73-87 trailing arm kit?
I think your truck would ride so sweet with this new set-up.

Re: Bagged trucks with NO dropmember or Z'd frame

I'm going to setup my '85 without any Z or drop member and just a small enough frame notch to bring the axle right up under the bed. The truck is going to be my daily driver and I only want it to be low enough to look good and have the adjustability of bags. I'm not worried about laying frame in it, that's what my '64 project is for

Re: Bagged trucks with NO dropmember or Z'd frame

That's exactly how I set mine up. Small notch, everything under bed. It will make a great DD, and sit low with adjustability. I like more of the hot rod, pro-touring look anyways.

Ektensive I think has a 2 link systems also. THe bars aren't as long as a PB, but same basic concept.

Here you go... I finally cut the fenders to clear when it is aired out. The 20's should tuck nicely.

Re: Bagged trucks with NO dropmember or Z'd frame

Heres my truck with 20's and the second is the new 22's with 12" rears. The reason the bed is off is, I've got to narrow the rear 4.5" per side. The truck has stock cross member and control arms, and a 4-link rear.

What size tires are your 22"s?

Do you have any pics of how you cut your fenders? I need to cut mine and was curious on how you did it. That stance is damn cool btw!!

Re: Bagged trucks with NO dropmember or Z'd frame

I basically drew out a 28" diameter circle, then placed that as a template on the fender. Just measured how high I needed to go, and where the center of the wheel was, then busted out the die grinder. It is still roughed in..... also rolled the fender lip.

Here is the backside. I still have to close it up with sheet metal, and use it to smooth out the inside of the fender. I haven't decided if I am using trailer fenders or not. If I do, I think I might use tandem axle fenders and have them go straight back to the firewall.
