John Deere Blitz Black paint?

From what I’ve read, JD enamel paints are indeed manufactured by Valspar. What I’ve never been able to confirm is whether or not Blitz Black is exactly the same formulation as any other Valspar black enamel. The ratio of different components may change depending on brand name or color selection such as flat black, satin black, or semi-gloss black between the product lines.

Years ago I worked for a company that made trail mixes. Nationally branded mixes received a high concentration of more expensive contents, like macadamia nuts, or cashews for example. “Club Store” mixes generally looked the same, but were blended with a much higher quantity of cheaper components like peanuts and raisins. This dramatically reduced cost so they could be sold cheap at discount stores.

It could be that because of brand exposure and product liability, John Deere paints receive superior chemical compositions compared to other products in Valspar production. Increased pricing could just be paying for the JD name, but my personal experience has been that John Deere paint is just as cheap as the generic stuff. The biggest disadvantage I'm aware of to buying genuine JD Blitz Black isn’t cost, it’s finding a way to acquire it if you live in a state where it isn’t allowed to be sold.

I’ve also had excellent results using Rustoleum enamels, but I have never found one that exactly matches the color and texture of Blitz Black.

I was watching a TV show, one of the West Coast Custom ones, and they were showing some of the projects that Jessee James had done. One of them was a 50's chevy truck and it was painted like a rust/red dead flat color. Looked real sharp.

Mark's truck is drop dead beautiful. I love that flat look.

yes but few, mainly JD only sells the company colors ...
2 different blacks that i know of, blitz and another that i forget off hand.
white, green and yellow. last time i was in the goodyear store the guy said something about a red color comin out but i've never looked into it.

Hello forum, i dont mean to bring an old topic back to life but im in need of some help with blitz black. I ordered it by mail along with hardener (which im not going to use due to iso's) and john deere thinner. My question is, since the thinner dries fast from what i hear and read which cause tiger striping, does anybody have good results with another brand of reducer made for acrylic enamel? Napa wants way too much. I found a medium reducer but i live in texas and the temp has been 90-98 degrees which im told slow speed reducer will work best for these temps. Any clue? Thanks in advance!

I purchased my thinner at a local automotive paint store. Any brand of slow speed acrylic enamel reducer should work fine for blending with Blitz Black paint.

Thanks Mark! I sent you a message about this last week but wasnt sure if it went through or not. But thanks for clarifying.

I'll go see what the automotive paint stores have this week. I couldnt find anything online. Most places carried it for urethane and one site was just carrying medium speed for acrylic enamel.

Wow, a black truck in west Texas better have A/C or you gotta be tough. In central CA not too many of us roll around in black. It does look great tho' but I just can't deal with the solar oven effect.

Looks good diesel. How long did it take to harden? Im not going with hardener so im sure it may take longer to cure.

Hey Dave, yes a/c is a must! Heat exhaustion isnt fun at all. But its a project build and not a daily driver yet. Once i get to that point i'll be going with a better paint job but thats not happening anytime soon.

Not something I've tried...might be worth getting a can and doing a spot ...you can buy it in the hand bombs ...it's pretty resilient...not sure on adhesion

I know Mark has sprayed it over lacquer, just curious if it'd be okay over Rustoleum.

I would "assume" it would be okay over Rustoleum as long as it's been left to cure. Air dry enamel over the same thing should be just fine, I've just never tried it.

What I'm reading is the actual base of the paint one plans to use. Lacquer base paint or lacquer base clear will wrinkle Rust-oleum.

What is the correct numbers for the satin in quarts and spray cans?
