Re: slide in receiver hitch help?
I bought the same unit @ Autozone. Used it all last summer to pull my boat with no problems.

Re: slide in receiver hitch help?
So it looks like there's an off-the-shelf hitch to fit nearly any need. I'm still trying to figure out which hitch might work under a Barden-style bumper. Has anyone done that combo?
I'm also wondering what the preferred ball height is? Anyone know? Is there a range? Or do you just address that with an upturned/downturned ball bracket? Also, what are people doing about trailer brakes? I'm used to bigger trucks where trailer brakes are a given. What are the rules on trailer brakes for 1/2 ton pickups pulling a boat, for instance? Do I want to rely on my single-circuit drum brakes to stop the whole show? These are some of the questions I'm pondering. |

I have not done the step bumper/hitch mod, but I don't see why It would not work. As for height, it looks best tucked up under the bumper as close as possible, adjusting to the trailer tongue with the appropriate slider. You know - straight out, big drop, little drop, or even flipped for a lift. The brake question is one I have not tackled, but surely will before towing our boat with the Suburban and stock brakes. I must say, our dads and grandfathers must have had bigger cajones back then, barreling down mountains in these things with a big boat or trailer in tow and hardly a concern for the family in the back. Re: slide in receiver hitch help?
If you put brakes on the trailer and do not wish to have a brake modulator mounted in your truck, you can go with the Tekonsha RF Brake Control. This is what I'm mounting on the Airstream project to hook up to the 63.

Re: slide in receiver hitch help?
My boat has surge breaks that work great behind my suburban. The system aerotruk63 is running looks cool for electric breaks. I have always been in the understanding when vehicles are rated for towing the concern is in stopping the load not pulling it.
