Fantastic story. Thanks for sharing with us. I had a similar adventure when I drove a truck (69 GMC 2500 Custom Camper) I bought off of Ebay 6 years ago from Nebraska to Maryland. Was a huge adventure and I don't think I could ever sell that thing. I only got 9.6 mpg. But even with the breakdowns and things, it was a great trip.

For everyone saying I should keep this truck, I think I am going to. I have named it the Badger, aka the Honey Badger. Because it just keeps on running and it don't give a ....
Video if you all haven't seen it (contains cussing) I need to get my hands on a welder here again so I can get the rockers and the floors in it fixed. I do that and I will have a pretty solid truck on my hands again.

I hate to hear about the 97. It sounds like a long tough journey, but it also sounds like you had it under control. After a story like that I think you have to keep the truck. It would be like keeping the stray dog that saved you from the well

I actually have something I am considering with the truck, My Kid brother is fixing to turn 17, while I was up in Montana I started teaching him how to drive. He seems to have his head screwed on straight, he is joining the Navy when he graduates next year.
I am thinking about getting this truck fixed up to where it is mechanically sound, throwing disc brakes on the front, getting 2 more new tires on it so it will have a fresh set, fixing the rockers, and getting the door seals glued in, then just spraying everything flat black. Then selling the truck to him when he gets his license, I am thinking about going to the bank and working a deal once he has a job where I will guarantee the loan so he can build some credit, and learn some financial responsibility. I might keep it for myself too, but I have an 80 CJ7 Jeep that I have been doing a ton of work to, and It has a fresh 304, NV4500 as well as a completely new suspension, so I am inclined to think I will be driving it. That and I already have a 72 that needs finishing, and it has a Cummins 12 valve in it, and it is a dually. We will see what happens though, in a bit I am going to run up to Napa and get some door lock cylinders so I can lock the doors on it. Also going to see about getting my stereo installed and the windows tinted.

Been driving the truck quite a bit, my girlfriend has a newer toyota, needless to say I don't fit in it.
Tonight we went out to Buffalo Wild wings and got dinner, then we walked around for a bit, went over to a movie theater and saw Red Tails, It is a great movie I highly recommend it. I tell you what though there is something that will just satisfy your soul about driving a old chevy with some burned out glass packs and a 4 speed! My girlfriend loves the truck too, me thinks she wants one. =)
