No Burb build thread yet..............I bought the 66 Burb from a local engine builder. This guy builds those high dollar camaro's and this suburban was his daily driver. It was a nice one owner truck and it is solid as a rock. I told him the day he wanted to sell it i would buy it. What made it special was the twin turbo fuel injected small block motor. This motor was built first class.....you can't imagine what a blast it was to drive this rocket ship. I put some Ride Tech tubular control arms in the front with bags and Porterbuilt's drop trailing arms and C-notch in the back and installed disc brakes on all 4 corners. I had more plans for the truck and had a transmission issue. A local shop had the truck for 3 months and I lost my drive on it. I picked up the truck (transmission not done yet), brought it home and took the motor out of it and there it sits in my garage. I was planning on dropping a nice small block in it and selling it.
Sorry for the long story but I am really at a stumbling block.

AGREE with you thanks. I was looking over it today and had some reservations. My other concern was having a nice detailed suspension and not being able to see it. We'll try making them smaller in the coming weeks and see what they look like. thanks again

i know we have talked but i didnt know if you had seen these pictures, this would solve your problem with having something smooth that would compliment your firewall and keep all of the water and debri out of your engine compartment while still showcasing the nice suspension....SLOSH TUBZ just sayin

Re: 69 slammed, 22"/24" bbc shaved clean

Today was another great work day in the garage. I have been checking out Kore 3 for my brakes. I really want 14 inch brakes because of the big wheels on the truck. I looked at Wilwood but the $4000 they need for 14 inch front and rear is a lot of money for a truck. I like the ZO6 setup Kore 3 offers......I made the mistake of ordering my wheels way too early in the build. The 5 x 5 bolt pattern was a real limitation.....cool thing is Kore 3 will drill the rotors to fit my wheels. I was working with very close tolerances because of those rear 24 inch wheels because once the truck lays down the tires are really close to the bedside at the top even after cutting out the inner bed liner. You ever notice wheels come down to 1/4 inch tolerance. I swear every time I put wheels on something I am trying to squeeze as much in as possible. I decided this morning to pull the bed off the truck to do some additional trimming in the wheel wells. We have trailer fenders in the back and they still had a lip on the inside edge so I wanted to cut it off. I was going to lift it off with a few guys but I thought why not try the forklift. We extended the forks with some 2 x 6's, got some straps and raised the bed off the frame. I could actually stand up with the wheel wheels above me and grind the edge off. That is some serious redneck fun. Oh ya, and if you see on the right I decided to buy my own welder instead of borrow one as I always have. I got it at Lowes and its the 230 volt Lincoln unit. For what we are doing I think it will be more than we need.

Next on the agenda was getting the hood hinges welded on. Since we had our new welder we had to weld something We removed the front tires and leveled the truck on jack stands, lined up the fenders and set the hood on. We already had the hinges mounted on the firewall.......with the tires off we had room to get up under the hood and mark where the brackets were suppose to go and removed the hood and welded the brackets on. Those bolts will disappear once we get everything welded in. The only problem with these hinges is you see them through the vented cowl on the truck. We decided we will close in the vents on each end of the cowl above the hinges so you can't see them. We are going to have to figure out where to put the gas shocks for the hood but at least we have a hinge on the hood.

I curious how you guys mount your air ride equipment. I am really wanting to mount the pump, valves, and electronics on the frame of the truck. Maybe someplace high where we can have a mounting platform so I can conceal the wiring and stuff. I thought it would be better to have all this mounted on the frame so I could install all of it with the bed off. Any advice would be appreciated.

Tomorrow we work on front fenders. I really like the SLOSH TUBZ but I had two more of the metal fenders that match the back. We'll be cutting them into the fenders tomorrow. I did have the idea of the panels on either side of the motor but I decided I did not want to hide the brakes and the tubular control arms.

Re: 69 slammed, 22"/24" bbc shaved clean

This past week focused on a variety of mods to the truck. When there is so much to do we bounced around a little bit but we were able to get some momentum going in a few directions.

My buddy Bob who is very well talented in hot rod building starting fitting all of the body panels. While mixing original and aftermarket body parts he has spent a lot of time getting everything to fit. It became obvious that is was time for me to move forward on building a work-build room in my garage because the dust started flying. I can dedicate a 20 x20 area in the garage to enclose. I thought I might install a in wall high velocity fan to evacuate the dust while working. If anyone has any hints on this I am all ears.

We had been playing around with some metal fenders for the front tires. I picked up some sheet metal this morning and we started cutting out some panels to finish out the inside of the fenders around the fenders. I think it is going to look pretty good.

A new Vintage Air unit arrived this week and like any new boxes of parts that arrive they must be opened and checked out. We couldn't resist sticking the unit up under the dash..........first fitting was a disappointment as there is no room under that dang dash...........even with everything removed. The last thing I want to see is an A/C unit hanging down below the dash. Next thing you know the grinder is out and we are cutting out an area at the bottom of the cowl. It was cut close to the hood hinges so we could eliminate the outside set of vents to also hide the hood hinges. This allow the unit to tuck far up under the dash so it cannot be seen from the cab.
