Windshield installation instructions needed

Did you get it in, or just rubber on the glass?

Just rubber on glass.
3 hrs of sweat to just get it on the glass.
It might be that the rubber was stiff because of it not being very warm this time of year.
I'm going to try and get it on the truck tomorrow or Sunday.

The long flat areas weren't too difficult. But getting the rubber to stay on the corners was challenging in that the rubber kept wanting to return to its previous shape.
So I ended up doing just the top and bottom and then masking taping them in place.
Then I did one end and got some tape on it to hold it in place. Then did the other.
Ran a space heater on each corner until I could feel the rubber was soft. Then after it cooled, it seemed to hold the corner shape rather well.
Saturday (tomorrow) I will attempt to install the windshield in the cab.

Most the way done with the windshield; had to stop for dinner.

Yes, sigshooter, I started at the bottom.
At first it hits the upper roof visor.
But once I got the bottom interior and exterior lips of the rubber laid down where it belongs, the top just barely slips in under the visor.

Part 1:

So, I first got the rubber on the glass, taped it in place, and let it set indoors for a day to let the rubber conform to the shape of the window.
Then I routed the rope around the window pushing it into the groove that will sit over the pinch weld. Then I set the glass in the bottom pinch weld flange, leaned it against the roof visor and then leaned a couple wheels against the glass to keep a constant inward pressure.
Once I got the bottom seal lips in place - inside and out, sliding either end of the rope out to both bottom corners - I took a rubber mallet and gently tapped inwardly down on the very top of the glass until it slipped in under the visor.

As I worked across the bottom and up the sides, I kept smoothing the outer lips out flush with the metal. Sometimes tapping on the outside with a rubber mallet.

I'm real happy with how it's shaping up.

Wow I never would have thought of tires to press against the glass. Great idea. That's really coming along nicely. Did you use any lubricant or sealer, and if so what did you pick?

I'm using water and dawn dish soap for lubricant.
I'm not using any sealer.
I've read of good and bad results using an additional sealer, putty, or otherwise.
And I've read of good results from using nothing but the bare rubber applied with just soapy water.
Beings I didn't have any additional putty/caulk or glue/sealer, I figured I'd just use the bare rubber applied with just soapy water.

I'm not planning on using sealer either. I've had two windshields with no sealer and no leaks, so I'll risk it a third time rather than put up with the mess it causes. And thanks for taking the time to shoot the photos and post the progress reports. It's very helpful information.

I'm using plastic eating utensils for manipulating the rubber's outside lip into place.
I'm going to heat up and bend a plastic knife handle at a 90 degree for working into place the rubber's upper outer lip right under the roof visor.
I might bend another at even a sharper angle for getting that upper outer lip in place.

Lost my 65, Well you did it congrats ! It just gos to show you where there's a will there's a way. But as the tires worked ,it is not a good idea...its a pounds per square inch thing, To much pressure in one spot could break the glass.I would advise asking Poindexter, the neighbor who borrowed the rake from you last fall to come and hold the glass for you next time just to be safe. Again great show of ingenuity !

Well I did it ! I started at the top, used the rope crossed at the top. Had two buddies holding up and in from the outside. I used a hook tool ( screwdriver with a bent end ) alot to help the rubber along the bottom. Went in first try in about 10 minutes this time.

Nice Jobs on the windshields. Just wondering how much harder it would be with the custom trim?? Anybody ever did it themselves (with no experience)

Watched a video online about with the trim, didn't look much harder. You put the glass in the rubber, then roll the rubber open and insert the trim into the rubber. From there it is the same as a standard rubber. If I can remember where I saw it I will post it. I think it was youtube and was from steele rubber maybe
