Re: New member, old 57 3100

Hello all, thought I would just post a quick update. Have since switched to a fleetside bed. Still need to align everything!

Also had to get another cab, was a 58. Removed and installed 57 dash, also removed and used the 57 firewall and entire PS lower cab 1/4.

Wiring. Who would have thought it would take so long.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

I like this truck, fleetsides are sooo much cooler IMO on these. yeah wiring takes way longer than you think. Can't wait to get after my other builds, lots of things I'd like to do different on the wiring. I see you have an EZ kit. its hit or miss on getting ahold of their tech guys, they are good, just hard to get a hold of. So post any questions if you got it. I wasted lots of money on the heat shrink wire connectors, I'd just get heat shrink and use reg wire connectors.

Thanks 99 to Life! I have had to call EZ twice and got ahold of the tech guy right away, he was awesome, had my two problems fixed in less than two minutes.

Truck is now tagged and registered, whew! I installed the new Flex-a-Lite variable speed controller and drove the truck around town today for about 15-20 miles. Everything is working great except for the steering. I don't have the shocks installed yet but the slightest bump throws the front end into a crazy wobble. Shocks will help some but its downright dangerous. I want to do a Mustang II front end next.

I am going to install the shocks and have Sid rework the steering arms and also reverse the taper for the drag link which should ditch the nasty bump steer I am having. If that works then I will try a front sway bar, before going to the MII IFS.

I flipped my rearend to lower but I like your stance better with th c notch. I did not have the body off the frame to do a c notch on my 57 Suburban. Keep up the good work.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

Thanks guys! Finally wired up the headlights and took the truck on its first night time beer run! Its so cool driving this old truck. Normally in my wifes car, I am an inpatient, speeding douche driver. Not so in this truck, its so awesome to just cruise down the road and soak up all the attention.

side note, I am pleasantly surprised with how well the 4 wheel drums work.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

sick, glad you are soaking it all up man, should be. as for the drums, they get a bad rap for sure. However running one reservoir would be scary, so new MC is always good IMO.

My 55 still has 4 wheel manual drums, and I think it stops pretty well. The best drum brake vehicle I have ever driven. But, how do you like the dropped axle??

Cool truck. The dual master cylinder is an easy conversion, I did one on my 63 Bel Air. Pretty basic stuff and all you use is different year GM stuff.

I love the stance which was my number one goal with the truck. I think the drop axle is doing great for not having any shocks on the truck. Once I get the drag angle fixed, the steering box adjusted and shocks installed I think its going to be fantastic!

I am going to stick with the single res MC for now, works great. I have heard you can go to a dual Corvette MC and prop valve. This upgrade will happen whenever I decide to go to front disc brakes, if ever!

Stopped by my bud Arts house after work. Couldn't resist taking pictures of the twins. His was purchased new by his grandfather in 55. Also a 47 that he is working on for his buddy Scott.
