Re: parking lights weird problem

theres power on the parking light sockets when i turn on the signal lights, but not when the switch was just on for parking lights.. im guessing theres a separate wire going to the turn signal switch and another going to the headlight switch?

Re: parking lights weird problem

Yeah
The park lights and signal lights are different circuits, they only share a ground. The turn signals work so that rules out the ground up there.
Start checking at the headlight switch. I suspect you have a power problem.

Re: parking lights weird problem

yea thats what i been thinking,on the diagrams it looks like they share ground, but cant really see where the power splits... i trace the turn signal wires to the cluster connector.. the other ones should go to the headlight switch?

Re: parking lights weird problem

the brown wire from the headlight switch its spliced to a white wire,i think its for the alarm, i checked the red wire from the HL switch n has power, but how to test the switch or power when when you only have the knob just to turn parking lights or how many volts it should put up when headlights and parking lights are on?

Re: parking lights weird problem

IIRC, the brown wire at the headlight switch is the park light circuit.
You'll have to look at a diagram to see where it goes and how it splits.
I don't have a diagram I can see on my phone.

Pull the switch out to park and check the brown wire at the switch for 12 volts

yes the brown should have power when the switch is pulled out.

check dark green for power at the switch
and
check the orange for power at the switch

Re: parking lights weird problem

Those numbers a off
Are you sure it's not milli-volts?
Nothing should be over 12.5-13 volts

Give me a minute to look at the diagram again...

nope
that is the fiber optic for the ash tray

Ok,
On the mV...A millivolt is one thousandth of a volt, so that means there is no power on the orange, brown, green, and white.
so you have power on the red wire, that is battery power.

The orange wire should have power also. It is fed from the tail light fuse. Check both sides of the tail light fuse at the fuse block to make sure you have power there.

The green wire goes to the instrument light fuse, it should be hot if the headlight switch is in either position (park or headlights on).

The brown wire goes to the park lights front and rear. It should be hot in both on positions also (park or headlights on).

The white is ground for the dome and courtesy lights (it will show hot all the time until it is grounded.

The yellow wire goes to the headlight dimmer, it will be on only when the switch is out for headlights.

Does your courtesy light and dome light work?

Now....
what is the blue splice on the brown wire in this pic

Re: parking lights weird problem

What year is your truck?

I just went back and looked at some of your other threads.
You have been having dome light problems? Dash gauge problems?
You said this has an aftermarket alarm?
looks like your wiring has been hacked, no?
You might be better off with a new under dash harness....
Or at least remove all the aftermarket crap that has been hacked in and fix the cut wires.
Does it have auto start?

Re: parking lights weird problem

try with the switch in and meter on the brown wire ,both clicks @ the blue crimp on
this will tell if it's working that far
then trace that brown from the crimp...that goes to the markers

cool you got it!
you may get most of the plugs at a junk yard
but knowing the right way to get the wires out helps, save the plug
