does that work with the universal style throttle brackets like what he has on there? i've found that alot of times the springs are too long for that.

i would say the rubber fuel hose has got to go first and foremost.

forgot to mention some tips about the fuel line. make sure that it is routed away from the exhaust because if it some how lays down on the header it can easily burn through and start a bad fire. If you plan to rebuild the carb. i'd recamend you find a better canidate. the one you currently have looks to be a "mutt" of parts from more than one style of q-jet and multipul years of q-jets.

I'd just get rid of the Q-jet and go with a Holly or Edlebrock.

That is a sad looking carb even if you get it close to running good, spend a bit and switch up to a Holley or Edelbrock and start a fresh. Either that or find a mechanic quick and actually get it straightened out. No more pictures, they are just too sad looking.

He doesn't haven an air cleaner...nevermind just being a doofus :P. Why don't you just run a wire into the cab and use manual choke?

Re: Can you take a look at these pics and tell me whats missing or wrong?

I agree with these guys about getting a different carb. and starting off "fresh", but inthe samenote sometimes the best way to learn is buy fixing stuff like this. Although the carb is pieced togeather from more than one style q jet and is actually from a mid to late 80's chevy. It can still be a good learning experience. What I will do sometime in the next few days is setup a carb. that is similar to yours on an extra. engine on a stand and take pictures showing what vacuum lines go where. It will be MUCH easier than trying to explain it all.

my 78 was dirtier then that with just a hole in the filter.....must have had one before
the fuel line being rubber is not safe in any spot under the hood, best is a metal line
do that first!
does the master leak or is that spillage, check the seal is in right under the lid
usally the master leaks, between the booster, out the back not over the side
may wana try getting some better pics, those are hard to judge...

Re: Can you take a look at these pics and tell me whats missing or wrong?

Oh the choke line is easy!!!...Open your hood and work the choke with your hand. on the side of the carburetor somewhere you will see something move, probably has a hole in it. tie a piece of hard wire you can push or pull without it flexing. Then run that wire in the cab, so when its cold push the wire in to close the choke, pull it out slowly to open it! My truck came with an old rochester 2 barrel with a nasty choke, I was young and didn't even know how to wire it myself, so when I started it up I just held my foot on the gas and revved it about 1500 to warm it up.

Re: Can you take a look at these pics and tell me whats missing or wrong?

most auto parts places stock it by the roll
some would have to order it in prebent
or maybe a shop could make one

each tank is 20 gallons, i recommend an edelbrock carb. can be found used for cheap and are easy to tune, it will even match your air cleaner! haha

Short beds have 16 gallon tanks,
Long beds can have either 16 or 20 gallon tanks...

i bend mine ,when you get the "hang" of it ,it's much cheaper
a lot of people think to make a 90 bend in one shot, dosn't work that ez
but you also need to "flare" the ends and have those bend ,fit, and seal
if getting a set of gas, brake,or tranny lines "prebent" , cool but very $$
saying "I made those" is way cooler,
after it fits, and before installing ,simple steel wool polish/rub makes quite a diff too
(this is my 79 below i just bought ,fixed, the 3/8ths missing in yours the hose was split)
as for the gauge is it over /under, bouncy?
might get a faster answer dropping by the electrical thread with that.....

Re: Can you take a look at these pics and tell me whats missing or wrong?

I went to the gas station
i had 40 bucks so i was like put it in gas
well at like 36-37 bucks the hose gun kept stopping itself
(I kept putting fuel in their and it started to spill out so i stopped)
I put the rest 3-4 bucks in my gas can
but I looked to see how many gallons it was it was only
9 Gallons? (I think their might have been 2-3 gallons in their)

It was my bday yesterday, but had to pay off some loans and bill
so i was left with 30 bucks lol
got to wait till next week for the carb now

my gas gauge stays a little over E
but when you turn it off it starts going towards the full mark

motornut can you take some more pics of that gas line relocation you did
that looks awesome and pretty easy to do
