Re: My build - found dads truck
Some additional pics and progress on the left side. You can see the new nut plate and cage in the pillar (original was long gone). I dont have a pic of it but the door stop in the a pillar was also gone so I fabbed one of them up out of a 1/8" piece of plate. Down below, you can see how little is left of the floor in the vicinity of the high beam switch.

Re: My build - found dads truck
Yes, that for sure! A co
Poets floor pan would be awesome and would be a lot less welding. Basically if you look from the underside, from the frame rails out is all new. I have probably added 100 lbs already. This truck has not had four complete body mounts in 35 years. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: My build - found dads truck
Found these four pics on someone's Flickr Site. Apparently the gentleman's hobby is photographing old vehicles he finds, He has a pretty interesting collection. The four photos below are from 1/27/2010. He appears to be from Newburgh and must have seen my truck on the side of the road and took a few pictures. Based on what I see, the truck does not have that caved in look between the fender and door like it does in the first set of pics I posted in the beginning of this thread that were from the original EBay listing
Here is his Flickr site: HTML Code:

Re: My build - found dads truck
In some ways I think you may actually have it easier than some of us with the repair panels....you get to fit the truck around them.

Re: My build - found dads truck
Some more progress pics, the a and b pillars are mostly together. Think the a piller is about a quarter inch too far forward and bent slightly over time. YOU will never know once it is together.

Re: My build - found dads truck
Made some more progress over the weekend. Cant believe how much different the drivers side looks already. Other than rockers and cab corners, I have never done this type of sheetmetal replacement before. I am a software developer by trade!
The first pic is what above the winshield looks like with the copper coated flashing and carpet threshold removed. Yes, bith of those items were used to cover up the rust (along with a heavy application of silicone ) all of which just made it way worse by trapping the moisture that was in all the insulation stuffed up there from mice over the years. That will be fun to repair! The remaining pics are from the left side foot well - firewall repair. I tried real hard to keep all of the indentions and the factory seam. I will fully weld the seam though.

Re: My build - found dads truck
WOW that inner roof rust doesn't look good...if you need a donor top I might know someone who has one in good shape. Now we at least know why your a pillars were completely shot. The outer roof skin's seam was compromised.

Re: My build - found dads truck
I am definitely in the market for an inner roof panel if I can find one. Very hard to find these days in the north east. I may also be looking for a piece of the skin behind the b pillar on the right side as well as a left hand door. I will post some pics of that soon, let's just says there is a lot of Fiberglas in there.

Re: My build - found dads truck
Your truck definitely is rough, but the history from your family makes all of the work worth it...it is great to see you rescuing the ol' girl...

Re: My build - found dads truck
Hi! Most of the sheetmetal was from lmc truck but the main floor pans came with the truck and were trico's. Fitment wasn't bad except for where the floor pan met the outer floor panel. The beads rolled into one was a quarter inch wider than the other. I tried to blend it as well as I could. I have not gotten to the outer rocker yet but test fit was ok

Re: My build - found dads truck
Seems like it is hit or miss with body panels ,I got some I didnt like the looks of , but the fit was good, then I got some that I thought looked a lot nicer and they were not stamped right and the holes for the cab support were way too high ......

Re: My build - found dads truck
I saw your story before... Glad to see you got your truck back. I know I won't loose this one again! Reason I jumped right into it was that it was so bad that I thought if I don't fix the floor and supports now, I may. Of be able to fix them later. Plus I'd like to be able to drive it a bit as a survivor before the summer is over

Re: My build - found dads truck
Finally started to get into the passenger side, attached are some pics of the a pillar. It is pretty bad but I guess it is relative at this point... compared to the drivers side a pillar, it is not nearly as bad
