i'd find one,late 70s early 80s,for me pre etesting means pre 87
look for tilt,power locks,rear air/heat
i used my 87 for camping removed the 2 and 3rd row,
fit a full size bbq behind the drivers seat,(turns out fire ban in effect, would not have be able to cook without it)
slept in the bed
i made screens for the rear cab doors, simple
open window, stretch screen over outside, upper half of door, pull tight close door
the rear window had a flag held with velcro for privacy
I also made a screen for a car sunroof ,strips of magnets glued onto screen, for the drive in

What you are doing/did is pretty much what we've had planned. Removing just the 3rd row seat is enough for my wife and I, and my son wants to sleep on the 2nd row seat. Sure beats sleeping on the ground with rattlers and scorpions, and a little more secure.
I figure the burb can also serve double duty when family comes to visit, that's where the 3rd row seat will come in handy for us. The idea of having a back up tow rig for my 28 foot trailer also appeals to me, even though that is usually reserved for my 1 ton pickup. I like contingency plans
I just wanted to know the options, likes, dislikes, things to avoid etc...which is why I started this thread. I want to get something I'm happy with. Searching has only turned up a couple that I've even gotten remotely interested enough in to go look at. One I posted a link to above. Most I've seen are ragged out, modded to the extreme, lifted etc....It's hard to find something that someone hasn't screwed around with. I hate car searching
