Re: Anybody restored a grille out there

I know this thread was started some years back, but since it has resurfaced, I'll show you mine.

Mine started out with a billet grille, but I wanted to go back to stock. Found a salvage yard with a grille. Dismantled the entire thing and cleaned all the old paint/tape off the center molding and cleaned up the entire grille. Repainted with argent paint. Then I used vinyl tape for the red in the the center moldings. Replaced the 4 small molding on the other edge. New parking lights and headlight buckets.
I'm working on restoring another one. Thought about keeping it for a backup in case something happens to this one. All it would take is an animal or bird hit, and the grille would be history.

Re: Anybody restored a grille out there

Doing another grille I found in a salvage yard this past winter. Cleaned the old tape out off the center moldings. Gave the grille a through cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. Cleaned the lights real good and got new moldings for the ends. And then painted the Bowtie Red.

I used 0000 steel wool and cleaned the hell out of it and it turned out nice, 20 years ago anyway

I used scotchbrite to clean up the grille and then used a Krylon Silver for plastics. Turned out great I think.
