Hey Kenneth,
The thin elongated flame design is referred to as Ohio Flames in the street rod circles. You may try doing a search on some of the street rod boards for more examples. |

I had been wanting to try ghost flames done in chameleon(spelling?) paint. I tried it on a piece of sheet metal to test some different paint ideas and it turned out so good that my auto detailer put it up in his store. He was the one who supplied the materials, otherwise I would have it. But it looks real sharp, just an idea for you.

I suggest you polish those wheels! Those are awfully dull looking!

XXL,
I'm not much of a graphic artist, but have you thought about bringing a flame down a little lower and using it to accentuate the curve of the wheel arch? In any case, I agree with the others that there should be a little more substance to them, and they should be carried back onto the doors. I wish I had the talent to do stuff like that! Brian |

I think they look great, personaly, I would have alittle more, and bring a tail or 2 slightly on to the door, Flames rule, and never go out of style, exept for the trible they were short lived...

I think you should go with reverse flames, from back to front, like I painted on my Pinto in college! I've got to find that picture. Went real fast in reverse.

My only suggestion is to bring the tip of the second flame down out further so the three longer tips don't appear to line up at all. I think you did a great job on the layout.

I like them that length.
My suggestions / critique The last three tips end nearly parrallel. I think they'd look better staggered more noticably. The second lick down, the two tonged one, looks a little straight, maybe a little more curve, maybe leave it out. if you are going skinny, maybe its better to be really skinny about it.

If you painted the grill the same color as the flames it would be similar to how the 67-68 looked originally!
My suggestion would be to add some flames to the hood. If you want to keep the flames from off balancing the step side, you could add some flames to the top of the hood. You would only see the flames when you look directly at the truck, hence not off balancing things. Otherwise, add alittle more flames so it looks more complete. Excellent jobs putting them on. I keep trying to draw flames but can never get the licks right.

Thanks again all. brennecke, did you buy the software used to manipulate those images?
I've pretty much committed to NO flames on the hood. The '67-68 slant seems to be diminished with graphics, and I like the slant. The whole front will be body color... trim and all. I've got some steel headlight rings, you may have seen the bumper (see website link below), and I'm still looking for steel grille opening trim to paint. The flames will probably emanate from the sharp body line on the front edge of the fender. I had thought about them emanating from nowhere (the round flame head you sometimes see), but I think I prefer the body line idea. While I may mock up some flame licks down in front of the wheel, the flames need to be VERY horizontal... much like a pinstripe gone wild. The "Ohio flame" as Shane mentioned... this one is a pretty good example (just the sides)-- Kenneth

If you are not doing the hood, I think it would look good starting behind the front wheels at the bottom with the staggered style.
