Re: Price of tires.. OMG!!!

I bought some 275/60/15 BFGs in 2001 for 300 from Sam's. I bought some more for my 87 last year from jegs for 462 to my door. Last march I bought some from discount tire direct for 577 to my door. Tires have definitely gone up through the years. I always shop around and at the time these were the best prices I found.

Re: Price of tires.. OMG!!!

In 2007, i bought a set of 275/60/15s (currently on the truck) for 66 dollars a piece from discount tire. I found the cheapest most basic tire of this size (pep boys futura) and took that quote to discount and they had to not only match it, but beat it. It would have been the road huggers, but they were out of stock and had to give me what they had which was $106 a piece goodyear gtII. That pretty much had been my tactic from then on out. Find the cheapest tire of the size you want and make discount "honor" their moto.

Re: Price of tires.. OMG!!!

Happy to say I get ALL my tire mounting and balancing FREE of charge for the rest of my life now. (see below) Got tired of paying crazy prices and depending on others so I picked up this pair from a car dealer that upgraded. No appointments needed!

P.S. I'd check out Summit racing for tires. Usually decent prices and they don't rape you on shipping charges.

Re: Price of tires.. OMG!!!

I needed some new tires for my Explorer (245/65/17). The best deal I found was a set of Hancook's for just less than $800.
I got to looking on Craig's List and found a set of brand new Michelin's. $250 for the set. It's going to cost me $75-80 to get mounted and balanced, but I'm still way ahead.

Before the price gouge,Goodyear MT/Rs (old version of same tire) were the most expensive 315/75-16s at $215 each. Now a stock size tire costs more than that! It doesn't matter where you buy tires now. The money you save is pocket change compared to how much more ALL tires costs ANYWHERE just a few years ago. And,I don't want to hear I'm old and stuck on what was. I've been around long enough to see plenty of inflation, that's for sure. But,Tires and batteries took an unprecedented jump in cost, all at once to nearly double when in 20-30 years they may have gone up 15%. That's what I'm talkin' about. I used the cycle tires as an example from just last year "after" the big gouge and it's 18% in a few months!

Oh and $65 just to balance the decent 235/70 no names I have on the rallies already.

That's odd, The local Discount Tire in Charlotte will price match Jeg's or Summit without shipping. I would look for a more friendly manager. I bought almost the same T/A Radials for my truck for ~ $400 plus install.
