I just [popped out the six lug axles and have the Moser 5 lugs on the way as well as a Wilwood rear disc setup.

Hopefully I will get the frame sandblasted in the next week or so. I can do it myself at home, it's just a matter of time and weather.

I am impressed with the condition of this truck. Very few surprises during disassy. No more rust than I already knew about which is not much. All the hardware came apart nicely.

Stuff I either have ordered or already here:

Porterbuilt front touring coilover clip with tubular a-arms, sway bar, and Porterbuilt 4 link rear ordered. Nate already had the Ride Tech adjustible coilovers, Hyperco springs, Unisteer power rack drop shipped. I have the CPP modular spindles and I have ordered the Moser 5 lug axles and the Wilwood rear brake setup. I also have my Nitto 555 tires and am waiting on the Coy's C-5 wheels. 22" and 20" in the regular gray and machined.

Hey Durg, Were there any rubber pads between the bed rails and the frame when you took it apart? Also where did you find the high hump? Local?

No rubber pads. Metal to metal. The high hump is coming from Washington state. I am supposed to be getting the bolt in mating piece and the firewall that I believe comes out of a '62 with the Hydraglide style tranny. I got a couple high humps already but they are rusted and I was going to have to cut them up to make one decent one. I have the mating piece I cut out of the firewall which also needs a little work on the left side due to rust.

Well i moved the old crossmember out back. I don't imagine there is much of a market for this stuff?



I needed to remove the truck arm mounts from the rear end tubes to make way for the new Porterbuilt 4 link mounts. Got that done and then blasted the housing nice and clean.





Blasted the frame today too. What a ***** in this heat!

Installed new bearings and seals and slid the Moser axles in so I could verify fitment of the Wilwood rear brake setup.

I try. I built and raced circle track cars for 15 years and won a few championships at local 1/3 mile race tracks. That taught me about attention to detail and reliability, as well as learning fabrication skills as well. I am also in the Nuclear Quality control arena as for work. These trucks are completely new to me though.

My sand blaster is a pressure unit TIP 99'er that holds about 50 pounds of abrasive, run by an 80 gallon compressor that still needs a rest during blasting to catch up. I have always used fine grade abrasive and the current stuff is actually crushed glass that I get at crown paint. ( now Moody's I guess). No matter how you look at it, sand blasting is not fun.

I have had some trouble with clutch in my Impala so I was working on it today instead of the truck. I have smoked two clutches in it already this year. I ended up going with a McLeod RST twin disc clutch good for 800 H.P. after a proper break-in which the tech guy said was 12-15 hundred clutch cycles (basically everytime you shift or take off is a cycle) I got a little over 3 hundred cycles on it this afternoon when I took it out for a ride. Here are the install pictures for anyone interested in this type of clutch:















It basically has a disc against the flywheel and another that rides on the intermediate plate. The pressure plate mounts to a ring that is mounted onto the flywheel where the clutch would normally bolt up. No chatter on takeoff and it shifts fine also.

Impala is back together and running great so I was puttering around with some truck parts today. I found my Energy Suspension body bushings come with the wrong size rear bolts and then found out my big front brake kit from CPP came with the wrong caliper brackets. CPP was great and will ship a new set of brackets out ASAP no charge and Energy Suspension is checking into the bolt issue. I got outrageous powdercoating estimates for my Porterbuilt a-arms, panhard bar, and four link tubes so they will be getting painted. Some of the powdercoating costs I have seen quoted on the forums are amazingly cheap especially in Texas! I have a guy in Texas that has chrome plated some of my Impala parts damn near as cheap as the New England powder guys will do coating.

Today I packed the bearings and installed the aluminum hubs on my CPP modular spindles. Then I went to put on the 13" rotors on just see what they would look like and found out they sent me 4-3/4" bolt pattern rotors. Calling CPP now to try and get that straightened out.
