New Style 7" LED Headlight from Truck Lite

I bought myself a set of these last month for a decent price and I am extremely happy with them. At first I wasn't sure on the look of the lights, I didn't like how they don't sit flush with the bezels but I really like having that smoked looked. They are really bright and have a nice wide vision.

Been looking at these for my 1975 CB750 motorcycle. It's got a 7" bucket so it should work too ^__^

I can't say this enough- if you ride at night- get it. Period. Best light you can get and lower amperage load on the bike. Win-win.

I have one on my Harley electra-glide (with a pair of the matching passing lamps). They are awesome.

I was getting excited reading this thread thinking I found my headlights for the 68, but after seeing they dont sit flush with the headlight bezel kinda pushed me away from these. They do look good on your truck just bugs me they fit the way they do in the bezel.

Do they only come in smoked? They look good and I can deal with not sitting 100% flush but would prefer clear. Looked on their website and didn't see where they did.

They look smoked but they aren't really. Its just the way the reflector looks. No other way to get 'em.

Check out cibie reflectors- I put a pair on mine (had one on the Harley before I went LED). They are European spec reflectors, far superior to US DOT standards. They look old school but take a regular H4 bulb so you can really jack up the wattage and do away with the piss-poor original sealed beams.

Did you have to change to a relay harness to Handel the addad wattage?

I'll add my two cents if you don't mind. Do the relay mod even if you still run stock sealed beams. And if you upgrade the headlamps, even with basic 55/60 watt bulbs (more than adequate, btw) -- most definitely do the relay mod. It provides full voltage to the headlamps, which the stock wiring cannot do.

X2 all I have are relays and generic headlights from ge and I don't see the need to upgrade further.

Truck lite came out with a heated lens, T stat controlled for the snow sticking to the lens problem.

You certainly can but you don't have to. I didn't. You will get brighter light but at the expense of a shorter lifespan on the bulbs (more voltage means they burn hotter) and the mess of additional wiring under the hood.

I don't drive a whole lot at night with the truck and the difference without changing the wiring is significant enough that I am happy with it without the mod.

I'm not so sure that's correct, you are only supplying the voltage that the bulbs are designed for. Now if you gave them more voltage than they should have, I'd buy into the shorter bulb life theory.

All I have is a relay upgrade and Sylvania sealed beam headlights. A blind man can see with these, so I have no reason to go any further.

I'm using lmc's heavy duty headlight harness and it hasn't failed me in over three years, most of my driving is at night. I think leddzepp is using the one from lmc too.

Why would it not be correct? It is brighter from increased voltage through the relay set-up. That increased brightness is because it is running hotter (through the higher supplied volts). It may not last less than the manufacturers designed hours of use if it was rated at full 12v (or 13 or 14) but it will certainly last longer at a reduced voltage (through stock wiring). I don't know if the reduced hours is appreciable but it is real.

Even if bulb life is reduced at proper operating voltage, it would be insignificant, especially considering the improvement in lighting performance. Safe to say most (if not all) modern vehicles use relays in their headlamp circuits. Nobody has to add relays.... it's a personal choice based on wanting to maximize your lighting and therefore your safety and comfort during night driving. Whether it's worth it is up to the individual. As to decreased lighting caused by voltage drop, consider this from Daniel Stern's website:


Power for the headlights is controlled by a switch on the dash. This is *not* a great place to tap into the system, for two reasons: The headlamp switch uses tiny, high-resistance contacts to complete circuits, and the wire lengths required to run from the battery to the dashboard and all the way out to the headlamps creates excessive resistive voltage drop, especially with the thin wires used in most factory installations.

In many cases, the thin factory wires are inadequate even for the stock headlamp equipment. Headlamp bulb light output is severely compromised with decreased voltage. The drop in light output is not linear, it is exponential with the power 3.4. For example, let's consider a 9006 low beam bulb rated 1000 lumens at 12.8 Volts and plug in different voltages:

10.5V : 510 lumens
11.0V : 597 lumens
11.5V : 695 lumens
12.0V : 803 lumens
12.5V : 923 lumens
12.8V : 1000 lumens ←Rated output voltage
13.0V : 1054 lumens
13.5V : 1198 lumens
14.0V : 1356 lumens ←Rated life voltage
14.5V : 1528 lumens
