Re: stepside; why?

My kids didn't like it much when I got rid of the 80 Stepside and got the 68 fleetside. Oh well they'll get used to it.

Re: stepside; why?

OK, enough lurking .........
Why stepsides? Because they are utilitarian. Don't forget, step sides have steps in the side. Makes things much easier at lets say, a swap meet. How do you access the sides of the bed on a fleetside? Reach way up and over, or use the tires as a step.

Also, in a step side you have a big rectangular bed with STRAIGHT sides. No wheel wells to hold up sliding your load out the back. As an example, I have a large property to maintain with a lot of trees. So I am always taking yard waste & branches to the landfill. All I have to do is drop the tailgate & push the load out the back all in one swipe. I'm in and out of there in a couple minutes. Other guys at the landfill with fleetsides & similar loads are envious of that.

Having owned both fleetsides and steps, gotta say steppers are much better for what I use my truck for. As always, it is a matter of personal preference, and the owner's intentions for the truck. Personally, I like them all.

Even on the newer trucks I find my stepside much easier to load and unload than my fleetside was. Both trucks were standard cab, standard bed.

and yes, before it's said, even my 03 can be used to step on and off of.

Re: stepside; why?

My first project truck was a '51 3100 short. It used to bug when I would tell people about it and they would ask me "Is it a stepside?" Come on MAN!

Sign of the times...

I must add that I've alway preferred fleetsides on "later" trucks, but I really dig them both.

Re: stepside; why?

Both styles have their following. My 69 is a step but I'd like to have a fleet also to switch em out once in a while. Different look, same great trucks.

Re: stepside; why?

It's funny, back in the '70s and early '80s the rage was all about Stepsides. Now it's about Fleetsides. Not saying nobody liked Fleetsides back then, just like some still prefer Stepsides now. Trends...they're for followers
