I had the same issue with that same gasket last year ,
my solution was I cut it to make it fit .
Had no problems with it leaking or shrinking .
what a big p,i,n,t,a it was .
I called classic industries and they said they have never had any problems with them

Re: serious windshield gasket problem. anyone else have this problem?

I own a auto glass co. Precision mouldings are the best, but it does take a little work with a new moulding. I can install a new windshield in about ten minutes with old rubber, on the other hand a new rubber is a little harder to do. I'm in the process of rebuilding my dads 77 chevy truck. When you install moulding try to push it toward its self to try to shrink it a little, thats what works for me, just start in the middle on the bottom, have someone help you as you go left or right push the moulding toward the center ( its self ) with someone holding center. Do not cut moulding thats asking for problems, Leaks, Rust, if it seals it will leak down the road. I think this will help you.

Re: serious windshield gasket problem. anyone else have this problem?

I recently installed one of these gaskets in my 90 suburban with a new windshield and it leaked. The problem is my windshield frame is really wavy. I have the style with the rubber lock strip. When i put the windshield in, i bet it would leak just based on the waviness of the frame. Sure enough... So i need to pull it out and try again. Is there a sealant that can be used?

Re: serious windshield gasket problem. anyone else have this problem?

My 76 (and now I think my current 83) had a leak in the upper right corner which leaked down the front of the passenger side kick panel. This was caused by a bad crimp in the sheet metal around the windshield opening. It was ultimately solved by hammering down the raised crimp area and smoothing the surface to line up with the rest of the opening.

The bad crimp is not readily apparent, but I happened to be watching the people at Safelite when they were reinstalling the windshield for the third time and notified them of the bad crimp. They tried lots of silicone before that with no positive results. I recently had a cheap windshield installed with a cheap windshield molding to boot. When that windshield breaks I will get a good one and a good molding and make sure they smooth the opening and pay the extra $$$.

My frame is REALLY wavy. Hindsight says i should have fixed it pre-paint... Now im just hoing the sealant that was in there when i pulled it out can be found and re-applied to keep the water out.

Re: serious windshield gasket problem. anyone else have this problem?

I just thought I would share my experience with the new windshield I just had installed in my '77. I went with new rubber and chrome trim from LMC. The installers said they had a hard time getting the rubber to fit, excess length. When I got it back there were gaps in both lower corners where the rubber meets the frame. I've managed to work it tighter after it's sat out in the sun but it still isn't completely flush. Also they scratched up the new chrome trim and I found a small two inch section where they cut the rubber as they were working the chrome strip into place. Needless to say I'm not very happy, now I have to consider taking it back and hassling them to see if they will make it right.
