Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
We'll see if it pays off. It's something that takes my mind off the days chaos and taking out any frustrations through hard work.
Thanks bud! I just found out my wheels won't ship until late NOV..... not something I thought would happen. Don't know if I'll wait as I want to get the motor in and measure for a driveshaft. |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Just to back up a bit , when you go to use the MT tires on your next build I would buy the rims with the off set you want ( how deep you want the look of the rim to be ) and would cut/narrow the rear to work well that's IMO.
No wonder my buddy can't find a BBW truck you bought all of them J/K Nice build

As for the BBW trucks, I just find them from time to time and if they're not to far gone and the price is good then I'm game. Craigslist will be the end of me I'm sure! Let me know what your buddy is lookig for and I'll keep an eye out. |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Finished getting the rear suspension together this morning. The only thing that was a pain is the drilling of the air bag valves through the frame and took a couple of batteries for that.
I have to order the brake lines on Monday so I can get all those run. I think Inline Tube will have everything I need for those. Looking at the stainless steel lines and braided stainless hoses. |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Trying to figure out the fuel setup for this. I read through another build on here that I think had to do the same thing... I beleive the LY6 needs to use the filter with the built in regulator..... Left a post in the LSX section asking about this to ensure everything is correct. Picture of what I think I need is below.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Shooters_7, I did an LS swap into my 71 Chevy C-10 and used the same Russel quick connect fittings you have listed in your above post for your fuel lines. I would strongly recommend that you do not use those fittings. The plastic retainer will not hold. Mine came off shortly after the swap spraying gas all over my engine. Luckily, it was cold when it happened. If this had happened going down the road, I would have likely had an engine fire. I have read numerous post on the LS page about this. See my build page post #92 for the link about this fitting.
Summit has a Russel fitting that fixes this problem using a screw in "C" clip that will not let the fitting come off. Here is the link for the 3/8 fitting http://www.summitracing.com/search?k...us644120&dds=1

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Installed the sway bar today and found out that was more difficult than planned. Just drilling the new holes for the mounts with the battery powered drill. Had to stop and "recharge" in the middle of everythin.
Also had a chance to order brake lines from Inline Tube. Hopefully they fit pretty well and I won't have to modify too much with the Porterbuilt stuff. Has anyone had issues with "pre bent" lines? |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Running my company through their team live fires two weeks ago and realized I was standing on an old pineapple grenade from WWII. Not the best thing to be doing since the pin and spoon were missing. I really hate duds!

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Thanks! Wish I had those crazy metal working skills that you have!
I'm looking at trying to get the motor set in this weekend. That's if nothing else comes up and crushes my plans. This will also give me a chance to order the drive shaft and other parts I need. |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Been really busy with several differnet things around the house and at work. Had to bring the skid steer from my parents farm to my house (20 miles) to unload my engine off the shipping pallet. Was unable to use the engine hoist to remove the engine without possibly breaking anything. Too many plastic parts and sensors that I didn't want to risk.
One thing I can tell those who are using the Porter Built stuff is to leave loose the mounts that the motor mounts tie into. IF you don't its a pain in the butt and you'll scream! Needless to say you figure it out as you go. The truck style oil pan fits with a mild drop and I see no issues. |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
I should get the wheels in two weeks which will allow me to set the truck on the ground and off my jack stands. I'll figure out where I need to bolt in the transmission mount once I do this and ensure it is set correctly.
Here soon I'll need to order a wiring harness and I think I'll go with Speartech for this. They seem to have good prices and good reviews. I have all my fittings and fuel lines which I'll run this coming weekend. This will be easy and would have done it today as well but ran out of light. |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
I'm curious if I'll have any issues with the 4L80e fitting under the "low hump" trans tunnel. I looked when I got home a little but haven't measured just yet. Won't be able to do this until my weheels arrive. I hate things on back order!

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
The wheels have been on backorder for ever and aren't due in till DEC 16.... This is something that I didn't expect and I hope they're worth it. This is one of the only things holding me up for several big things that I need to do such as set the trans crossmember and start putting body parts on.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Still no wheels....not a happy camper! I have to call those guys and ask WTF as they should have been here! I need to order the tires for them though and I think I'm doing 275/50s since they aren't too expensive.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
The brake lines from inline tube aren't made to fit a frame/suspension thats modified. I'll have to either bend them and learn along the way or find someone that does it in the area. Asked n2billet about getting some done but haven't heard back just yet as he is up the highway 3hrs. Anyone else have any ideas???
