my first question... if you want a optioned out truck, is it cool to make factory like modifications? like changing a standard cab to big window or add factory air to a non-air truck. stuff you might have ordered if you could have back then.
I don't see anything wrong with it, since very few trucks were bought with all of the available options. My '66 BBW short/fleet has both Z61 and Z62 custom group options, side trim, chrome bumpers/hubcaps, and radio but had a 250/3 speed, and thrift heater. No A/C, deluxe heater, no gauges, V8, PS, PB, or auto trans. It kinda makes you wonder why someone would order all of the appearance options, then cheap out on the comfort options!

Hey Yelmer, how tough was it to change the cab to factory air other than changing dash boards, Was the firewall an easy cutout, I have a very nice small window cab I was thinking of converting to BBW with the air.

Re: Post Your Factory Correct Restored Trucks! (No Customs!)

the cut outs for the ac are easy good hole saw on the firewall. if you get the 1966 accessory install manual, it shows you how to do it . the dash part was from a ac truck. so that was not cut the dealer install is just like the factory setup

If there was ever a poster truck for this thread, it's Yelmer's. He's way ahead of the game by seeking out the C-20 Custom Campers. Real work trucks, often fully optioned for comfort. Really, the best of both worlds ... but Sshhh, don't tell anyone.

Re: Post Your Factory Correct Restored Trucks! (No Customs!)

Mike Yellmer) that 66 C20 is awesome for correctness and showroom original. I have struggled with my two for goals and I think I am going to build my first 66 short fleet with original factory air cab and go all original colors and correct white stripe fawn CC interior. I plan to make the original 327 factory correct colors and pieces but right now I plan to go with 3:08 five lug posi rear end and front disc brakes. Then I'll use the 605 ps gear box. I hope to make everything else factory correct and then have 2 sets of wheels both hubcaps and then factory GM alloys. If I live through the first truck, I always have a second 66 swb with a 283 3 speed overdrive that would make an awesome totally stock restoration. Just collecting a mountain of NOS pieces to make it all happen. Mark

I had a feeling I'd find you over here. That's a better choice than the "other" truck you went to look at.
