Re: Project "Barney"
Nice work! What did you not like about the POR15? Just wondering. I am about to start my frame as well.

Re: Project "Barney"
I wire wheeled my frame clean. Then painted the frame with POR15. When it dried, some of it peeled off like a banana peel. So I decided to just pay a little more and have it powdercoated.

Re: Project "Barney"
Now Im waiting on some more goodies to arrive. I ordered new deep aluminum oil pan, trans pan, and new alternator fan. I have a chrome oil pan on right now that I just dont like. It already leaks a little. Something chrome pans are notorious for. But it's what I had laying around at the time.

Re: Project "Barney"
I recieved my new trans pan for my new 700R4 and new oil pan for my sbc. I pulled the motor and removed the T400. Then swapped the pans. Had a chrome steel pan and hated it. For some reason the color in my pics looks gold, but everything is painted cast iron gray. Looks better in person.

Re: Project "Barney"
Next I need to notch the corner of the driver side motor mount shell since its too close to the hedder. Then I'll be installing the hard brake lines and my new stainless braided hoses in the front. After that, the motor and trans go back in.

Looking good. Those frame-offs are a *ton* of work. I'm in the same boat as you with the dually. Hope to wrap it up this year.

Re: Project "Barney"
Wow I am envious! I would love to do this to my truck, but time, money and only having one vehicle to drive prevents me from doing this.. keep it up, looks really good!!

Re: Project "Barney"
Thanks guys! Appreciate it. Havent made a whole lot of progress lately. Did the brake lines and collected some more parts. Came across another 12 bolt rear already set up for Cadillac disc brakes and trailing arms/panhard bar. Also have a pair of trailing arms off a 3/4 ton truck (braced heavy duty compared to 1/2 tons). Ill be swapping out the heads and intake too. Ill post more pics soon...

Re: Project "Barney"
Small update, waiting on parts...Aluminum heads and vintage Holley intake are at the polishers place. Im waiting on my Porterbilt rear trailing arm crossmember too. I need to get it in, holes drilled then powder coated and installed before I put the cab back on. My goal is to be driving this by summer. Paint will have to wait, just not in the budget yet.

Re: Project "Barney"
I can relate budget wise. I was toying with the idea of painting the inside of the cab while it is all naked so I wouldn't have to strip it down again when paint IS in the budget. I guess it just depends on how it would affect the final outcome of the paint, as I don't have any clue what is possible with paint as I am by no means a painter! I'm always lookin at your "roller pics", and lovin 'em. I'm a few steps behind you on my build. Love that cast iron gray too!

Re: Project "Barney"
I went and picked up a trailing arm crossmember and front shock braces from CPP. Needless to say none of them fit right. The crossmemer wasnt even close and the shock braces were way off. So after returning those parts I ordered a Porterbuilt Crossmember. To my disappointment, it didnt fit right either. After a chat with Nate, come to findout that 73 & 74 frames are different than 75 and up. He said they used a 75 frame as a jig and they have a curve in the frame for catalitic converters. He offered to send me a bracket to fix it, but at this point, I didnt feel like cutting and welding a new part that I just bought. So...I have given up on the whole trailing arm conversion. I will at a later time swap over to a 4 link.
