John thanks for the detailed write up and pics, already picked up a crossmember for this mod when I seen your first post on it, this will be a winter project and install in the spring when I rebuild the front suspension..

The skills some of you guys have amaze me!! This looks like something I would see on the HAMB but with more skill.

Chief, after you section the crossmember do you go ahead and add 2.5" drop spindles ? or is this not possible after sectioning due to steering clearances....???? Kieth

You can. As for steering issues, the clearance problems are due to the crossmember being raised.

A dropped spindle typically is cast with the spindle relocated, but the steering arm is in the 'stock' location.

As mentioned before, yes I will be raising the steering. I will have a full how to on that as well.

I haven't touched it in a while. Been busy setting up my new shop ....

I took a few pictures of the crossmember, with the stock front suspension complete dropped (no coils) for some reference of clearances. Tire is a 215/65-15 (26" Diameter) ....Stock spindles.

(NOTE: V6 engine rear crossmember sitting on floor)

Have you done yours yet? I would like to get a real life view of one...I'm in denton too. I want the porterbuilt but can't swing that kind of money so may be time to practice up on welding!
