Re: Are there any regular cab dually picture threads?

I have two extra doors and only one drive axle on my R30. I drive it 99% surface street "city" driving and generally see right around 6mpg. And it is soooo worth it! I love my truck!

Re: Are there any regular cab dually picture threads?

i think the only way to get good economy is to go diesel. Since 1 tons have a minimum of 3.21 rear gear it's still do-able towing wise and you can still keep up with traffic---reasonably. Although not as fast as small block or big block.

Or one could put in a 6.0L FI engine with a decent tune and pull some better MPG's. Someone here has done this with a blazer or a suburban and has got good results.

I knew I would find it somewhere.

Everyone thinks the 6.0 should be a gas hog,,,I mean lets face it,,,it's not a big engine,,,it's only 364 cubes, there is no reason for it to be considered a gas hog. It only has 9 cubic inches over the 355 I used to run in my blazer. I now run the same 2004 6.0 engine in my 72 4x4 blazer with a 4L60 and 3.73 gears and get 17/22 city/highway with an optimized tune. I think that's alot of the answer to your question. GM puts such a lazy tune in these things (low timing tables/pig rich WOT AFR's) makes the engines lazy. My neighbors 03 duramax 3/4 ton is getting him 17-18 mpg which doesn't seem all that special to me for a diesel. Again I'm sure there is something left on the table with the tune though. If I can get 14 mpg out of my 79 1 ton with a 502 in it, no overdrive, and 3.73 gears, then there should be potential in any pickup truck out there if optimized properly.

This is what I have in mind if I can get my hands on this 86 I am looking at.

Re: Are there any regular cab dually picture threads?

My 78 gets 9 unloaded and slightly less loaded. This is with everything that's in my sig, 245/75/16 tires, 4:11 gears, and a 800 cfm quadrajet that's been modified to about 840 cfm and quite a bit bigger primary jets. If I keep the 454 in it much longer i'm going to build another qjet for mpg. I plan on putting a cummins in it with a NV4500, then I will get around 20mpg if not more. My old dually had a mildly built 454 and it got 7 no matter what, except for one time I got 12 out of it. I don't know why, I double and triple checked my numbers, made sure I wrote my mileage down right, didn't change anything and didn't drive any different.

Re: Are there any regular cab dually picture threads?

Here is a '78 Scottsdale Camper Special 454/4spd with wood floor I had in the late-80s. The pictures was right after I bought it with temp tag still on. I had already put the new chrome bumper on (had a new painted one). I lost the running boards and put radials/chrome Budds on. I ran dual exhaust, put quality stereo in, and had a little pinstriping done to match the piece on the rear fenders. That's all you had to do back then. They were everywhere and you just picked the one you wanted. I bought this for work, so I could play with my old trucks.
