You don't have the Discovery Channel? It is airing on both Discovery & Velocity

I agree, and everyone I know that builds cars says the same thing. They really missed it by a long shot for driver ergonomics. This is where I start when building a rod, not something I wait for the end and go "OH SH!T".

I will have to look at my build photos, but I think the rear 4-link bracket is shown installed backwards. The TCI instructions are wrong. (most of theirs are severely lacking, never trust them).

Saw the show last night. Was that Dynomax exhaust custom, or do they have a universal kit ? I like the X-pipe.

Re: The new Overhaulin' - Chuck Schafer's '54 Chevy pickup

I finally found it and recorded it but haven't watched it yet.

I'll have to wait and see on the seat but The most comfortable seat I had in the 48 was the original seat that Bobby Richards of Waco redid for me in true roll and pleat and put extra foam in the seat. The worse one Is the late 70's Dodge St Regis 4 door seat I have in it now. I think sitting on a board would be more comfortable than that thing. The cat loves it though.

It was Magnaflow actually and it was a universal kit. Not sure of the part #

Re: The new Overhaulin' - Chuck Schafer's '54 Chevy pickup

Do you have any detailed info on how exactly Foose brought out the grain in the wood? There was mention of misting the wood with black then rubbing it with Acetone. Is it really that simple or were there other steps involved? Thanks in advance

Re: The new Overhaulin' - Chuck Schafer's '54 Chevy pickup

This was a good episode. Definitely seemed like one of the most expensive jobs they did! Almost everything except maybe a few portions of the cab were replaced. The guy barely seemed interested, though...

Loved the story of the tiny old lady modifying it to drive it

In the last pic on the first page, is that the black mustang they did for the guy in the wheelchair? That car was badass... for a ford.

There have been discussions in the past on other boards that some of the people who had their vehicles "overhauled" on the show have ended up having to put them up for sale because they couldn't afford the taxes that the state and feds (income tax) asessed on the vehiles but I don't know how much truth is in that. With things the way they are I would expect that the tax mongers would be after what they saw as their cut on the increased or perceived increase value of the vehicle.

I know when you win a vehicle in a raffel like some car clubs and other organitions put on you end up paying taxes on the advertised value of the Iprize vehicle and maybe not it's actual market value in the real world. A guy
I know ran into that a few years ago when he bought a ticket from a fellow Lions club member on a 50 Mercury 4 door that was mildly customized. He paid 5 bucks for the ticket and ended up paying tax on the 10,000 advertised value of the car when it was worth around 5K at the time 20 years ago. He tried to sell the car for a long time and couldn't get an offer even close to the 10 k so he kept it and the last time I saw it he was hauling his grand kids through a local parade. The car will probably bring 10K these days though. It just took it 20 years to reach the advertised value.

I figured out from doing a search on the taxes on the overhaulin cars that there is more bs and misinformaton about those cars and how things work than one can imagine. I did find out that the guy with one of the Challengers that was done on it was more than happy with it but would have done the paint different and will someday. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...n-hemmings-tv/

Thanks, I finally got to watch it though. The truck looked great running down the street after they gave it back to the guy.

I rather like the stock type painted wheels myself even though the color could have been closer to the body color.
