Re: Headers and Spark plugs

I went with some Jegs headers, they bolted right up no issues just a few of the spark plugs were a pain in the ass to get in, but they sound great I love them, just wish my truck loved them too haha

Did they fit without modification to your exhaust?

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

well it had a very very old stock exhaust on it, so I cut it all off, so as it sits right now it would be just be open headers no pipes or nothing yet, but I'm going to be purchasing and exhaust here shortly once I get it running again, because its actually not good to run your motor open headers unless its very heavily modified. the only issue with mounting up with my exhaust the problem I would of ran into is the outlet is 3" and I think the stock was 2.25" or 2.50" compared to 3" its tiny.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Well a small but sad update the truck is still not starting but we replaced all
the spark plugs as we noticed 1 was bent and in the process of taking out the old ones we noticed that 2 of the spark plugs weren't even sparking but covered with fuel, so Saturday going to get the coil looked at and hope that's the issue

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

With two wet plugs maybe you damaged a couple wires while switching them?

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Well I had a buddy come over yesterday to look at the truck, thankfully he has a chevy 350 as well for his project so he brought his distributor cap over to maybe see if mine was bad. Swapped them got everything hooked up nothing still wouldnt turn over, so it seems as if my next option and simple solution will be wires. If that doesn't work, what should I look into next?

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Take your timing light hook it up like your gonna time the truck and have someone crank the truck and take the wire from the light that usually goes to the number one plug wire and put on each wire and make sure the light flashes. This will tell you you are getting spark to each plug if no flash something is up with the wire.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Okay, I'll have to test it this weekend as mainly my weekends is when I work on the truck, say for example all the wires are fine. What should I look at as a solution next?

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

if the wires are routed wrong you should at least have some back fires coming through the carb or some really creepy back fires out the exhaust.

im guna take a guess and think youve fouled the plugs (you said they were wet) -pull the plugs, dry them off and put them back in.

if you have spark, have fuel, there has to be fire. plain and simple.
your not getting something, so you have to have something not right. too much fuel flooding it?

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

I mean honestly I'm willing to believe anything but I don't think I'm flooding it because I only pump the pedal 2 times when it won't start and normally until now it would crank right up and I would let it run for a bit so that it doesn't flood it.

Well thankfully enough I completely forgot about him sort of I have a cousin thats actually a mechanic thats in my family so I'm hoping to have him come check it out on wednesday and if still nothing. I'm going to send it off to a engine shop to get professionally rebuilt and fix any issues that might need to be fixed.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

well it was rebuilt by the Dad that I bought the truck from so I dont know if they did a true rebuild kit or just replaced the gaskets and things like that, I mean there's parts in the bed of the truck that were bad and replaced. I know it may be a bit in wasting money but I just would feel more comfortable if I actually had it professionally rebuilt and balanced and everything.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

I'm hoping no doubt, no worries though once it's running or I find out I will be putting a description of what happened. so that other people can possible avoid the issue as well.
