Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Does anybody have a pic of the solenoid location for the throttle linkage knockdown? Mine was mounted to a bracket but just laying on the intake, any pictures or description of how that bracket was meant to be located in order to engage the solenoid at full throttle would be appreciated

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Did you get the truck running yet?
Did you go to the root page of the link I sent you?
Here read up on this. Don't worry about his split shift mods yet, we want to get yours functional first.
http://www.classictruckshop.com/club...over/drive.htm
And again
http://www.classictruckshop.com/club...5n/rebuild.htm

Should be pretty clear if you have the original carb/type on the original manifold and if your truck is a factory V-8 (CE vs CS VIN).
With the throttle wide open the bracket should fit in such a way as the plunger is depressed. The kickdown switch powers the O/D engagement pawl out and blips the ignition to unload the driveline.

Like I said before you should have a set of '69 manuals to properly diagnose the system. If this is your third then I am suprised you don't have them.

Went through my likely places and I am not finding any good material beyond that already provided. I had hoped that my Camaro treasure trove would yield something useful but I cannot find it in the assembly manual and my shop manuals are buried along with many more of my service newsletters.

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

I understand how the solenoid works but with the bracket i have the possible bolt hole locations don't seem to line up with any of the threaded holes in the intake. Just got my distributor last night, should have it running before the weekend is over, then i can from there.

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Lets try this.
Factory V-8 C/10 with a CE VIN code?
M10 transmission on the SPID?
Original engine?
Original carb.?
Original intake?
What does the switch and bracket look like?
Pictures of anything underhood... is this possible?

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Everything is factory
307 with gm 2 jet and original intake
CE vin
No spid, glove box door has been swapped for chrome
No cut wires, all original except my hei distributor swap
Full throttle solenoid has 4 prongs with pigtail, 1 wire going to coil, other 3 lead to transmission tailshaft solenoids
pictures to come soon

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Good those are very positive reinforcing answers. Understand about the SPID, luckily the others support that this is all factory. That will make things easier.

Did you look at the pictures in the linked pages? There was a carb connection for a single bbl there.

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Here will this help?
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=485522

Also not to restate the obvious but have you done much of a site search? There is a lot of information posted by people who are no longer here or on the other side of the fence and likely will never see your request.

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Good news, after removing the 2 barrel carb today i realized where the bracket that was unmounted goes, it uses the back 2 carb studs. Problem solved for now, just waiting on new fuel tank sending unit to come in, remount the tank, drop in the new hei distributor, wires and plugs, slap on the freshly rebuilt carb, and hopefully fire the old gal up. Then i can start diagnosing any OD problems if any. Thanks for everyone's help!

Need to go back up to post #13. Do a web and site search to see who has these for sale and if you can still find a rebuilder. Look in the classifieds of older trucks and cars as well. At the point your truck was made these were in their twilight. Have you been able to test them? Did your manuals arrive?
The major electricals are a solenoid, governor, overdrive relay and the kickdown switch. With the wiring diagram you should be able to bench test them with a meter. The GM part numbers should be in the manual but it will be a lot later if at all tonight before I can look them up. Again good luck, with some persistance we should be able to get it running. But again speding money on expensive electrical parts without seeing the trans. internals could be a mistake.

Did you trash these spotlights or are you planning on selling them later?

Unfortunately board rules require you to be a subscriber to post items for sale. Probably should not have asked but really hate to see things get trashed that I would like to have.

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Here are the parts pages from the '79 catalog. If I could afford it I would buy a '73 edition. Use the exploded picture for the group numbers. You can download your own ancient parts manual and teach yourself a new language.

Re: 3 speed overdrive questions

Well here's the latest. I got the new distributor in, plugs and wires, flushed the fuel tank, new fuel pickup, and after cranking it still no fuel..so i got a new fuel pump, still no fuel.... so i then figured out my steel fuel line was completely stopped up. As a temporary fix i got some rubber fuel tubing and got the truck fired up finally, to my surprise the old 307 didn't smoke, but the Rochester 2 barrel is in need of much help, after timing it and several rounds rounds of carb adjustments, she's starting quickly and driving fair, just a little hesitation in the low to
