Not yet, hopefully next week. I have full access to a restoration shop with a booth, I just don't want to interere with his business or family time.

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

Would you guys think I was crazy if I ran some steel wheels and GMC hubcaps? I think the white would have to match the truck, or be toned down a bit...but Hmmmm. Or maybe black wheels with hubcaps?

I wondered if you'd chime in...your truck got lower. Black wheels look good, I wonder how they would look with hubcaps? What set-up are you running?

Yeah, it's even lower now. I've never ran the 10 1/8" caps, only the smaller lug mounted 88-98 ones like I had on my ext cab truck. The wheels are GM 15x6's with 235/75r15 Hankook tires.

Great looking body repairs! I am going to learn how to do that stuff one day.

Also, I think the steel wheels would look awesome!

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

We had our first maintenance issue this week. I noticed some brake fluid on the ground at the driver's side front wheel after it was parked for a couple of days. There has been a ticking coming from that area, so I'm thinking there is a rubbed hose or loose fitting or something but I've been too sick to investigate until today.

It turned out to be the master cylinder, leaking past the plunger and out the bore hole, down the face of the booster, on to steering shaft then upper a-arm and down the gutter to the caliper and then the ground. There was a pretty good puddle. I went looking for a rebuild kit and the only one I found was more expensive than the master cylinder, so I was stuck just replacing it. Kind of disappointing that you can't easily get a kit which is just a plunger and a couple of seals. They're easy to repair...but that doesn't make the suppliers enough money.

It was a quick but messy job, the hardest part was getting my wife into the cold garage to pump the brakes. The m/c must be bench bled then I like to bleed it again on the truck, one circuit at a time with a clear hose into the reservoir while the other blocked off, just like on the bench. When that's done connect one fitting and leave it loose, with the other blocked off it will force the remaining air out. If you keep the stroke short, it will also suck the very small amount of air back from the top of the unhooked lines. Get a good flow with no bubbles on the down stroke of the pedal and lock down the fitting and you're good to go.

Also, I've been tracking the MPG. Right now it's around 12.5 mixed driving. I know it can do better...stay tuned for that effort.
