Re: My 68 C10 CST (Destiny - AKA The Bike Hauler)
Pics as promised of what it looked like after the front clip was removed, and one of the valvetrain. The previous owners didn't exactly take care of the engine. The gaskets were toast, Just nasty. I plan on using this engine short term as I save money for what will eventually go in. Might need to rebuild, but at the very least clean it out and replace all the gaskets. The engine ran with no smoke when I bought it...so we shall see.

Re: My 68 C10 CST (Destiny - AKA The Bike Hauler)
Muahahahaha... *insert mad scientist cackle here*
The Cab is off. What an adventure that was. Really glad I had an engine hoist and my pop to help...otherwise, I'd have been screwed. We put it down on a home made cab dolly, and immediately destroyed the casters that were on it. (to be fair, they weren't made for this...I just happened to have them) The engine looks absolutely massive without the cab around it, but it's still just a SBC. I'm really glad I decided to dismantle this truck, as I keep running into things I need to fix from the previous owners...ahem...expertise. fuel pump Hard Mounted to the frame? Check, but not a big deal. Then...absolutely zero support for it at all as it runs to the carb. The Front cab mount bolts WELDED to the cab floor. interesting...ok. The secondaries in the carb don't move...at. all. Also found my accelerator assembly was sourced from a 78 Chevy. Not a big deal either, just...unique. Now...gotta start cleaning the frame and prepping it for POR15. Gonna hit CL for an engine stand to pull the stump. Once that's done, I can start in on refreshing or replacing all the front suspension parts. I had a lot of fun hanging out with my dad today and working on the truck. The only thing missing was my son...but he'll be back at it with me next weekend. Pics...

LOL you aren't the first person to say "I'm just going to make it reliable and drive it" and then proceed to tear it all the way down and do a frame off restoration, this is a labor of love.
Good luck with the build and don't forget to enjoy yourself a 68' is a thing of beauty. |

Re: My 68 C10 CST (Destiny - AKA The Bike Hauler)
The frame is now sans engine and transmission...and I'm convinced that by tearing this truck apart, I've probably saved my life.
