He lists his location as NW PA, that's on the other side of the state from me. I'm in SE PA.

Re: NV4500/NP205 question (s)
Why not use a np241 they are a lot easier to find and it will bolt right up to the nv4500.
Larry if we lived closer I would trade my early gm nv4500 for yours.

I understand the challenge that turns into addiction. i appreciate your offer, if everything else falls thru I'll come after yours. I'll be in Longmont next month, you think I can get it thru the airport security as carryon baggage?

I grew up in Burley and know your area well. The parts guy is in Pocatello. Brother lives in American Falls. Are you looking for anything? This guy (not the one I'm getting the 4500 stuff from) is telling me that he has several round nP205s/pass side drop and is willing to sell them to me for $100 each. I'm sending my brother over there on Friday to verify and send photos. At that price, I'm buying every one he has. |

Re: NV4500/NP205 question (s)
Actually, I have been sitting on one for 7 years now. It came out of a wrecked 72. They guy had the tcase rebuilt and 2 months later his wife rolled the truck. Its basically brand new, been sitting inside and I got it for free. I've just kept it quiet, Im kind of a hoarder that way.
Im not looking for anythig right now, an NV is on my list, but not right now. If you find anything out this way and need somebody to look it over for you, let me know. Erik

Re: NV4500/NP205 question (s)
Well hopefully this pans out like he says. He answered a wanted ad I placed on CL. He "parts trucks" for a living and sounded like he knew what he was talking about. He described it correctly and said more than once they were 205c round pattern out of late 80s 3/4 and 1 tons with the front output on the right "passenger side". He said he went to put one in his 88 1/2 ton and realized it was the wrong side drop (which should be IFS with a D/S drop), which sounds correct. As we all know, until you actually see it and then buy and possess it, it's not 100%. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I'll keep ya'll posted. |

Re: NV4500/NP205 question (s)
I figured it was too good to be true. Turns out the 205s were 206s. Had he sent me the photo of it earlier I would have know it wasn't a 205. I'm not sure its a 206? I'm not sure I have even heard of a 206.
I have another one located and in the process of closing the deal. $250 and its a 205 6bolt round P/S drop for sure. The 4500 should be here in about 10-12 days> Christmas coming early I think I just spent my wifes Christmas money. Probly spend a week or two in the doghouse Last edited by SunSoaked; 11-24-2012 at 08:19 PM. Reason: I'm a dork |

Re: NV4500/NP205 question (s)
ive never heard of a 206. i think jeep used a 207 in the early square headlight wranglers. bummer though 100 bucks a pop for roundy 205s would have been pretty sweet.

Worse yet are the folks who have what I want and quickly reply they have one and then dont follow thru with it. I mean if you have one you want to sell, then make an effort to sell the darn thing. I have the funds just waiting to be transferred. Frustrating to say the least. |

Re: NV4500/NP205 question (s)
Hi SunSoaked, Just looking over your NP205 nv4500 ''possible conversion'' Just to let you know that the damper should stay on and they did come on gas nv4500 truck. Mine came from a 96 350 truck. Also you will need the AA adaptor as you showed us along with the adaptor you will need to grind a small slot into the flange of the nv4500 tail housing about 3/4'' deep for T/C shifter clearance. You will also need the AA shifter T/C braket to bolt in your T/C lever somewhere. however it depends on your fab skills, personally I built my own braket based on the AA one with a little more beef to it. I also did not use the stock bell housing. instead I used an 86 SM465 hydraulic bell housing and fabbed my own adaptor to mate it to the NV4500. it only adds 1/4'' I am also running a centerforce clutch for an 86 K30 454 application.

Re: NV4500/NP205 question (s)
Hey, I really appreciate your input. The original deal fell thru but I ended up getting a better deal, so its all good. I got a 4500 out of a 93 with a fresh overhaul and nearly new (200 miles) clutch/flywheel.
This trans does not have the balancer on the output shaft. Its the way it came from gM. I will use the AA belhousing so I can keep the clutch fork on the drivers side. I plan to use the OEM clutch master and slave and probably make my own robust slave mount. I have heard conflicting thoughts on the trans to t-case adapter. Some say the "short" t-case output bolts directly to the trans and the tail housing requires notching for the shift rails and others say if its the long shaft you need the adapter (spacer) and it already is clearanced. I think all round pattern 205 had long inputs. If its a short input its been changed. Thats what this guy told me and he owns a company that does commercial 4wd conversions for ambulances and that type of stuff for 34 years. He has a huge NOS parts inventory and bought directlly from New Venture back when. He has several NOS round 205 bare cases and NOS inputs (32 spline longs). I went that route, since I already have a older 205 and I can just swap the guts and call it good and not have to deal with shipping. Both the t-case and trans are on thier way. It may be a week before they get here and I can then put it together and see for myself whats needed. Last edited by SunSoaked; 11-29-2012 at 11:26 PM. |
