Re: 60-68 Tow hooks vgc.

Just adding, that part number was cast into both left and right hooks. The earlier ones (60-66) had a 6 digit number but was the same hook. I believe the 49-50 on the end took care of both sides.

Re: 60-68 Tow hooks vgc.

PT,

You are correct that these are both RH hooks. I have two also with the same part number and they are both RH hooks. It's very difficult to find a LH hook as a match. It seems the RH hooks are much more plentiful for some reason.

I'm curious what type truck did they come from?

Re: 60-68 Tow hooks vgc.

So the part # does not matter it is just the way the hook bends out at the end that does make the difference in a LH or a RH. I guess what I am asking is that a LH and a RH hook could both have the part #3663349-50 on them. Do you think since there are so many of this side floating around apposed to the other that GM could have screwed up and put same side hooks on a vehicle?

Re: 60-68 Tow hooks vgc.

I want to say it was a 68 C-30 but am not 100% sure and he no longer has the truck so it would be hard to tell unless he remembers which I am sure he may. The truck was far gone and stripped then crushed when scrap metal was bringing big $.

Yes, you have two RH hooks pictured. It looks like back on Nov. 30th/Post #8, gmc 2500 4x4 was the first to mention (in a non-direct way) that both of your hooks were of the same side. Mel

Here is some more quoted info on the 60-68 hook casting p/n's from post #10 of the below linked thread from earlier this year. Mel

"You have it right in that you are looking for a LEFT hook as your above pictured pair are both RIGHTS, your pictured part numbers are casting numbers found on both LH/RH hooks. The same 60-68 hooks can also be found with the casting P/N 596369-70 on both of the LH/RH hooks. I just went back into an old parts book and found P/N 3663350 listed for the left side and then P/N 3663349 listed for the right side, but I have the two RIGHT HAND NOS ones with original GM labels with P/N 3663350, and again they are both RIGHTS. I am thinking that because the book has them listed as 60-68 GM trucks in general, maybe on the 60-66's use the 3350 on the LH side and the 3349 on the RH side? Mel"

Re: 60-68 Tow hooks vgc.

Thanks Mel for the info and I did not catch onto gmc 2500 4x4 was saying in that post. It looks like me and my buddy have some renegotiating on this horse trade gone bad for me. I do again apologize for listing these as a pair but I guess I was ignorant to the knowledge of tow hooks. Like I said before this is the first pair I have owned and no damn wonder know one wanted them .

Re: 60-68 Tow hooks vgc.

i did see a thread about a guy looking for a single hook....maybe he has 2 left hooks? i wonder if your two were put on the same truck from the factory....wierd things happened back then...my 68 catalina had a rear door with a hundred loose screws in the bottom. like somebody emptied their pouch when the whistle blew.

I wouldn't mind having a set of them that went the same way, just not for that price.... Depending on how things negotiate with your friend if you still end up in possession of them I may be interested. Don't want to talk prices now, take your time and do what's best for you. To me no pair of tow hooks will ever be worth paying $300 for though, so having a "wrong" set would still give me the look I'm going for without breaking the bank right now. I don't really care if my truck is completely original, heck it's already going to be a mutt of a 2wd GMC and 4wd Chevy. haha.

Hope it works out for you.
