Re: steel wheels and dog dish caps

Stock wheels which I powder coated and a set of junky 5 dollar swap meet hubcaps.

The hubcaps are real beat but for a five spot I felt like I could make them work for a while. I stripped the factory clear coat off the hubcaps which considerably helped their appearance. You can see a bit of before and after in these pics.

And in case anyone notices, the caps started out with gold bow ties but when I stripped them down, they were painted blue beneath the gold from the factory.

They came out looking pretty nice. What did you use to clean them up.

I used Methylene Chloride to strip the clear coat off, but that's not something most folks have around their shop. A good strong paint stripper will do the same thing, just not as fast, and is more available.

The wheels were a basic sandblast and white powder coat.

Here's mine. Just got wheels blasted and powder coated. Fronts are 8.25" wide with 9.5" Firestone Transforce and rears are 9.75" with 12" wide Firestone Transport tires.

John,
Looks great, How much did it cost for white wheel powder coating? I'm considering it.

Thanks Desert. They were $75 per wheel to get them done and the guy did a great gob! I was going to go with the newer HD wheels, but am very happy I decided to go this route. Love the steel wheels with hubcaps!

Great photo of a stock GMC 3/4 ton. Could you please add this to the 60-66 section http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...0-66+existance

Re: steel wheels and dog dish caps

Any vendors make repro. center caps for a 3/4 to Chevy K20? I am running the stock 16" steel wheels and would love some caps. Is my only source used?

Thanks
Doug
