Re: 67 ? K20

KS258T12xxxx is on the glove box. Also says it is dark Blue which I do find under the red paint. and 127" additionally it says Model # KS20905
so it says it is a dark blue and a six Cylndr and 3/4 ton W/ heavy duty leaf and coil springs etc on the glove box which makes sense for what the truck looks like yet the number on the door post KE 10D-PB17xxx is a mystery? No title. just a farm truck. all I have is hand written bill of sale calling it a 68 chevy dump truck.

Re: 67 ? K20

If the cab was swapped, and the VIN from the cab left on the cab, that would explain why the glovebox door is different. The took the glovebox door from the panel and put it on the cab that was swapped on.

Find one of the frame VIN's.

Someone with more knowledge than me can tell you where the frame VIN should be, and also how a 67 panel frame differs from a pickup frame.

Edit:
Here is a good thread on burb/panel frames, this may provide some clues.

and here is a thread on frame VINs

That's what I am telling you. Front clip is original to the panel truck. Interior of the 67's was it's own color, hence the tan on the glove box door.
Someone pulled the panel body, and put a pickup cab in its place.

What an awesome truck you have. There were only a handful of 67 panel 3/4 ton 4x4s. If nothing else you have a cool story.

Re: 67 ? K20

And to pique your interest even more, panel production numbers:

1967 3/4-Ton Commercial 4x4 - Model C/Series 20 - 127-in. w.b KS10905 Panel 3286 - 8

That is an 8. So 8 1967 3/4 4x4 panels were made. I hope that's the orignal frame under all of that. Pretty cool if it is.

Re: 67 ? K20

It is an awesome truck. Starts good even @ 11 degrees F last week. Runs strong enough for what i am doing. No clue what it would be like at hwy speeds but for logging and plowing it seems to have pleanty of power. It burns oil and the valves tap a bit. No power steering which is kind of a bear in the woods and plowing. I might have to put a new starter in it someday as the starter sometimes disengages too quickly. teeth on flywheel look good so i think it is the starter. I am going to need to know which motor I have when I tackel that project and really will need to know what I have when I tackel the power steering?

Re: 67 ? K20

The frame is really solid! One of the reasons that I bought this truck as my 83 F150 broke in half! i still don't think the numbers make sense.
the key that I have looks like this.

first symbol K= 4x4
2nd symbol S= 6Clndr
3rd symbol 2 = 3/4 ton
then it skips to 5th symbol which on the glove box is 8 which matches nothing.
6th symbol T = tarytown then production production sequence..

The 5 on my Vin number is the 4th symbol. 4th symbol is not listed on the key that I am looking at?

Re: 67 ? K20

The 5 means panel. If the 6th digit is an 8 then that means 1968. Not as rare as a 1967, but still pretty rare and cool.

This thread will walk you through the VIN

Re: 67 ? K20

This post link was emailed to me and based upon the position of the original body mounting points shown in the 1st picture ( I can see 2 1 just at rear of front spring hanger and one just behind and above the rear axle area) so I would definately say its a Panel truck frame as there is a body mount positioned just behind rear axle on the frame thats only found on panel trucks ( you can see it just above the rear tire in photo). There are a total of 6 main frame body mounting positions on either side of frame on a Panel truck truck frame for the main body section and 1 on either side for the radiator support. If it were a Suburban frame there would only be 5 main body mounts on either side of the frame and 1 radiator support mount on either side as the Suburban frame does not have the one found just behind and above the rear axle area. So it is a 4X4 panel truck frame for sure. Which would definately make it either a 67 or 68 4X4 panel truck frame since 1968 was the last year for the 4X4 Panel truck.

Re: 67 ? K20

The panel body was probably shot and they used whatever they had. Being a non title farm truck they didn't really care about paperwork.
Very cool truck regardless.

Re: 67 ? K20

so my engin mounts are not staggered. I guess this means I do have a 250? how do i know which carb this is to get an air filter? It has been running without one for who knows how long. When I bought it it came with a pencil to hold the choke open. We fixed the choke cable so that is all set.

Re: 67 ? K20

So far i have either changed or topped off all the fluids. gear oil was low everywhere so refilling was almost as good as changeing keeping in mind that this truck never goes over 20mph.

Filled the front hubs w/ grease. greased all the fittings that I could find.

Rewired the lights and installed back up light for plowing.

Replaced broken clearance light.

replace wiper blades.

switched plow mount over to Fisher.

Constructed rear tow package. there was nothing back there holding the frame together. It was simply chopped off right behind the spring mounts.

replaced brake lines and bled.

replaced broken lug studs.

installed low high range gear shift lever. It was laying on the passenger floor.

Replaced heater core. nasty getting all the dead mice out of there. and I need a functioning defroster for plowing.

installed temp gauge.

changed plugs.

Changed fuel filters.

I just sprayed the engine with gunk and hosed it off. also used the better part of a can of carb cleaner.

Driven arround the neighborhood a bunch, pulled a few trees out of the woods. hauled about six loads of wood and pushed some dirt around with the plow. No real snow yet.

The short to do list for now is Air filter and make a headboard for the dump body before I accidently toss a hunk of wood through the window.

Re: 67 ? K20

I don't know how to identify carbs. It looks like you need the whole air cleaner assembly right?

That rectangular mounting pad for the air cleaner assembly will be the give-away. Post a thread on this board titled small carb identification and include that photo and I am sure you will get a solid reply.

Edit: It is a Rochester Varajet
http://www.carbkitsource.com/carbs/t...er/Varajet.htm
The photo in that link is looking at it from the back.

Re: 67 ? K20

It's a cool discovery with your truck. It's a good old work horse that ends up being based on the most rare of these trucks. Definitely Barrett-Jackson material. You should only haul exotic firewood!
I'm not sure on what year motor, but the range I gave should work. It's all about the engine number and the reference I use only deals with V8 numbers. I'd just haul the starter instart with a year/engine,and go from there. GM didn't do a whole lot of variations on stuff like that. GMs are generally easy on that stuff.
