Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
The tailgate wasn't in very good shape either, but using some of the good sheetmetal from the floorpan cutout and a little more welding it turned out ok.

Very nice write up on the gas tank filler. I've been looking for a write up just like that.

Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
I thought i had done a decent job on my hood , but when i put a coat of epoxy primer on to seal it i found a couple of spots that need more work.

Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
I also screwed up and drilled the holes for the upper trim too high and it would not have looked right. Well whatya do but start filling right? i welded the holes up and have decided to go without trim, kinda like the clean look anyway.

Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
Great skills you got there. I remember seeing this truck for sale when i was looking for short box 4x4. Nice to see the effort you put in to bringing this truck back to life. Look forward to the finish product.
What year of blazer tank did you use? I have a 69-72 blazer tank and did not think you would have to mod the bed the way you did to make it fit. Still need a few parts before i mount mine. |

Moving right along. Good work on the patches and saving that OEM sheet metal. Won't be long now!

Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
Thanks Steve, i have learned a lot during this process, and hate to throw away repairable parts, i have amazed myself what i have been able to reuse.

Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
Well i haven't updated in awhile, been doing body work its coming along slowly, But big news one of our fleet vehicles from work was involved in a rollover accident and i was able to purchase it for the drivetrain, it is a 2003 Chevy 2500HD with an 8.1 vortec, Allison 1000 trans 14 bolt rear with 3:73posi. so i will be infusing Lazarus with a little more modern muscle than what i started with, here are a few teaser pics.

Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
The engine runs like a top, the trans and transfer case shift in and out perfectly, in fact the only thing hurt on the engine was the fan it got a little bent from hitting the shroud, but the radiator is fine.
i have been following a few builds on here and i am sure i will be asking Dirty Larry a few questions about his build, his truck is nothing short of awesome and he did such a good job it looks like it came from the factory with an 8.1. i will also be looking around for a 78-79 ford f250 for a drivers drop front end donor and swapping out the 1/2 ton diffs.

Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
Thanks Ryan! Yeah, i think i did very well, i know the history of the vehicle and its maintenance records. it will be nice having a complete donor to start out with.

Re: Project Lazarus bringing a 72 SWB K10 back to life
Did a little more work on filling the trim holes and shot some epoxy primer over it to keep it sealed, one thing i haved learned is i suck at body work!
