Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

I refuse to own a vehicle with an automatic transmission.

SM465 but I'm thinking of a NV4500 within the next year or so.

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

I've got a 305 with the 700R4. I've got 3.08 axles and 33" tires. That is a recipe for a 0-60mph time of 30 to 40 seconds. With a tail wind. lol

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

automatic transmissions are eval
they make it boring to drive with there slipping confort makes it easy to do what ever to pass the time during your comute

you cant beat banging the gears in a manual transmission the more gears you have the better it is

Factory 454/SM465 in my '84 welding truck. Lots of fun to drive every day, sounds darn good with full dual exhaust and short glasspacks too.

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

My '86 has a 454 and SM465. Works alright, but I never realised how slow shifting the 465 really is until I drove a newer truck with an NV3500.

If I had my way, I'd swap in an NV4500.

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

Wow, what an eye opener! The answers are as diverse as the different ways we're all using our trucks.

Even if a guy has Squares setup like my three short Fleets are there's quite a few choices a guy can make.

My TH350 in the '79 I swapped to a Gearstar 4L60E
Right now the '73 has a Gearstar Level III TH350 It has a 355 that dynoed 412hp at the crank.
The '75 is running a 454 with a stock 700R4, that's currently junk... Boy, a Rat with a stick sounds like it might be fun.

I really like GearVendors overdrives and have used 'em on 4-speeds, and a TH400... talk about bulletproof!

I might stuff the Tremec out of my '66 C10 into one of the squares, not sure yet.

Thanks a lot you guys!

A lot of people on here have clearly never had a broken foot. I like driving a stick as much as the next guy, and I've done two T56 conversions on F-bodys because I can't stand driving a sports car with an automatic. That being said, it just makes sense to have at least one automatic in the stable, and my burb fills that role.

'86 C20. Was a 454/TH400 car. I swapped in a TH700 instead. I like the highway cruising of the TH700, but not the really deep first gear. I'm thinking of maybe doing a TH200r4 swap sometime in the future to keep a more reasonable 1-2 shift. I'm still running the factory 3.73 gears, and I've got LT265/70-17 tires (32.7").

I have broken both feet at different times, had a knee replaced (left) and two weeks ago had a meniscectomy on my right. Drove stick trucks through all of these incidences. You get used to one foot for triple duty real fast.

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

3-speed manual, on the column... Rowing the gears works for that truck...

Super rowdy full manual, reverse valvebody with engine compression braking 700r4 in another... Works for that truck, too

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

355 c.i. with a TH400, 4.10 gears and 38x15.50 tires. It gets out of its own way, but not by a whole lot. It's far from fast, but it will surprise people for its size.
